Before debut, the interest towards them with the name ‘Park Jin Young’s junior’, ‘JYP Jackpot’ was very big. JYP had ambitiously prepared the male duo group JJ Project consisting of JB (Im Jae Bum /19) and Jr. (Park Jin Young /19) whom will finally show their faces full of nervousness and happiness on the 24th.
“I am very nervous and trembling a lot but we are trying our best to reach the anticipations that the many people are anticipating for” (JB)
“It’s a lie to say that we are under no pressure. It makes mer nervous how people are anticipating us. The biggest pressure is that we are not a group but a duo. We are trying our best in order to get over that pressure” (Jr.)
Idol groups these days are full with activities. JJ Project needs a special weapon for them to appeal towards the public.
“A differentiation from us? I think the first difference is being a duo rather than other idols. Idol groups these days consisted of four, five members or even more. We are only two. There would be differentiations in this area?” (laughs)(JB)
“It’s been a long time since male duo groups have appeared in the music industry, another difference would be the musical style. The male idol groups show choreography but we will be able to differentiate by moving around freely with the music and our clothing. We want to show a free and fun image on stage.” (Jr.)
We are curious about JJ Project’s first debut stage. With what performance will they catch the eyes of fans?
“We haven’t prepared anything special for the first performance, but there is an involvement of a fun performance with the song ‘BOUNCE’. Since it’s the only thing a duo can leave behind on stage, we are trying our best than other teams. If one person of the two make a mistake, it is noticeable but not if its within a group with many members. We have to show our skills if we want to do a great performance like them.” (JB)
JJ Project’s first album title song ‘BOUNCE’ is unique for it’s genre ‘Hip-Rock-Tronica’ and shows of a fresh vibe as well.
“Bounce means bounce. Bounce is old yet exciting. We are not doing a choreography for this concept but we will turn around on stage whilst jumping and show a side of freedom. We will create performances that can be enjoyed by the viewers.” (JB)
“We are in our 10s. We want to show all of what we can show. I think we’ll be able to show the cute and standing out charms of the people in their 10s with a variety of genres such as hip-hop and electronic.” (Jr.)
The song that stands out the most from their album is ‘Before The Song Ends’. Miss A’s Suzy is featured in that song. Why did they choose to collaborate with Suzy out of all the female artists from their company? “We did not decide upon this. The composer was thinking about it ever since we went into the album production. I think the song turned out well as our voices matched up well.”
[PART 2] They got strong skills after the harsh training and long trainee period. These are the words that come into mind when asked about JYP. JB and Jr. were both tied at first place at JYP’s 4th Open Auditions and have been gaining lots of fans before their debut.
“I did JYP’s 5th Open Audition during my summer of 2009. I was picked first along with JB hyung and we got to do our official singer promotions from them.” (Jr.)
“I got 2 years of dance and foreign language lessons. I was learning Chinese and Japanese for languages. I am not that skilled at it (laughs), I am just in the introductory stage. I still have to learn a lot of words so I have to try harder.” (JB)
Same aged friends JB and Jr. got to start their steps on becoming a singer after their auditions. We can feel an aura after hearing their real names: Im Jae Bum and Park Jin Young, the true singer seniors. Do they have a specific reason why they chose to make stage naes? “There is no specific reason. Our full names are Im Jae Bum and Park Jin Young. There is no big color added if we are rookies with the names Im Jae Bum and Park Jin Young. We took the first letter of our names and came up with JJ” (JB)
“The meaning behind our group name is to continue growing as musicians despite our age of being in our 10s. We are not a unit group, you can think of us as a growing project group. Being born with the names of seniors is a fortune yet a homework for us. But in order to match up with those names we have to work harder. It is a bit pressurizing but we have the will to grow like our seniors Im Jae Bum and park Jin Young. We will not put so much concern into our names and do our best with our promotions.” (Jr.)
Before debut, Jr and JB got their names known through KBS2 ‘Dream High 2’. Would acting be their hidden skill? They do not lack in anything “We got ourselves known through Dream High 2. I got to realize that I can act and I like acting. Acting and singing have separate charms.” (JB)
At the press conference of ‘Dream High 2’, After School’s Gahee praised the boys by saying that she fell for the boys dancing skills. How did they feel? “It was a big compliment. I have never thought that I dance well. I was never satisfied myself but I was thankful for the compliment she gave me. I thought that I should work harder. I will try my best in order to hear ‘JJANG’ next time.” (Jr.)
JYP is full of acknowledged seniors such as 2PM, 2AM, Miss A, Wonder Girls etc… These seniors did not stop their support for JB and Jr. The seniors have also given endless advice. “The seniors taught us a lot. As they were our singer life seniors, they gave us endless advice. 2PM’s Taecyeon and Junho hyung seem to be concerned over us a lot. So we have to work even harder.” (JB)
“As we debut, we have to concentrate as much as we can on our album promotions. ‘Bounce’ is not the end so please continue waiting for us. We want to communicate with the public in an enjoyable manner and grow up as musicians.”
