YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk
revealed the reasons behind refusing to drink with his disciples Big Bang.
Yang Hyun Suk recently guest-featured on the May 14th episode of SBS‘s ‘Healing Camp‘ and explained the statements made by previous guest J.Y. Park.

Ahead of YG’s appearance, J.Y. Park had claimed that Yang Hyun Suk was extremely strict with his label artists, and that he keeps his distance from them. “I thought he would display that side of himself on ‘K-Pop Star‘, but he was concerned over how nervous the contestants were,” explaining that he was frustrated over YG’s image on ‘K-Pop Star’.

J.Y. Park is right, I am an intimidating personality within YG Entertainment,” Yang Hyun Suk admitted. “Big Bang and 2NE1 are professionals, so there would be some advantages for me to be a father figure to them. However, if that becomes the case, the managers will not be able to regulate. There needs to be at least one very intimidating person.

To be honest, I want to drink with Big Bang and go on trips with them,” he continued. “But we don’t. I’ve only drank with Big Bang once or twice in 7 years.”

true on the 'intimidating person' person part, but quite sad (and... bad?) on the 'once or twice in years' part. it's not even him being a busy ceo that's stopping him.

Interesting, personally I think things should remain professional between an artist and the CEO

Mte. They are not friends. They are not on the same level.

I agree, that's better than some people who claim to be a big family, but stab you in the back when the "ungrateful child" sues them for being unfair...

The lines between a business-relationship like CEO and artist shouldn't blur with private friendship, nothing good comes out of it once there's an unresolved argument...

Other than my qualms about him calling his artists ugly , I think he's a really good CEO

yeah he does his job and doesn't try to be anything other than a CEO

TBH I wish he sometimes complimented in positive manner some of his artists as it can be more effective in many occasions compared to negative remarks, but I can see why he tries to keep his distance in order to keep his authority (though I think it's also partly because he's really socially awkward person LOL).

he must not like it when cl refers to him as appa. :o\

but at the end of the day, his relationship with big bang and 2ne1 (and his other artists) is a business relationship. yg family is a just a way for him to earn more money. and that goes for any idol company.

He can be a real shit but I agree with what he is saying here.... End of the day, he is the boss and sets the tone for work. Leave the buddying to the artists and their managers and the rest of their colleagues. But the boss should get with his employees from time to time, but not to buddy up. How else to know their thoughts and feelings on certain matters?

I mean he did that box thing on 2NE1TV where the girls wrote things to him. I mean that could just be for show and who knows if he really reads those off camera. He goes to the studios when they record, rehearse, and when they film mvs so I guess that is part of how he learns things. I would assume they do talk to him in his office as well. In addition, the managers probably pass info along from the idols to him.

But there is nothing like firtshand info as opposed to passwed along info

I actually agree with this. It's all very cute and stuff but you need to keep some barrier imo. For the good of everyone.

lol as if 2NE1 would want to eat with him/hang out with him/etc outside of work. I remember them eating together in the first season of 2NE1TV and it was obvious they wanted to be anywhere else but there

Lol this. If my boss insulted me on camera, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near him either.

I like Jyp's style more. I'm sure he's profession when he has to. I watched the backstage clip of a 2am concert. They were so nervous performing in front of jyp. So I think jyp will critique when necessary.

jyp may be close to his artists, going out to to eat and drink often, but he monitors them very closely and always criticizes his artists, the man is a perfectionist and not easy to please. he did make suzy record BGGG's 'hello hello' part for hours.

lol he pretty much ruined the dreams of yge stans that everyone is like a huge family and he's a dad to his artists.

he is like a father figure though? I don't personally call him "papa yg" cause that's just weird.

But distancing himself so there's someone to "discipline", at the same time proud of his artists boasting about them to other people when they're not around, seeing to it that he is at EVERY concert of his artist monitoring, monitoring their practices as well, even personally going with 2NE1 shopping for furniture...to me that's very much father-like.

adding in the fact that...
he's there at the time of need to back them up at every chaotic situation when he could just not care at all (GD's plagiarism, Daesung's accident, GD's marijuana scandal, to the extent of taking care of Tablo just cause he's "hye jung's husband")

To an extent I agree with the other "yge stans" of him being a dad to his artists but at the same time would not look past of his douche-y antics :|

It could be because he secretly dated his wife for years, including several years when she was still signed with the company. It caused some resentment when the staff and artists found out. I know I wouldn't be happy if I found out my boss had been secretly dating my colleague for years!

Personally I think it's a good thing he learned from that and decided to keep a distance from his artists, even for friendship.

I rather like that he's the scary guy who isn't afraid to speak his mind when he needs to.
It's his company, and he shouldn't have to hold back, even if some comments are hurtful.
