Coming from the same company as their sunbaes Dong Bang Shin Ki and Super Junior, SHINee who has caused a storm in Korea's music industry has also spread their immense popularity to Japan, releasing the Japanese version of their album in answer to their fans' call, and also setting a date for their first event in Japan. The first interview that they have done with the Japanese media, they were as nervous as they had been on debut, but having completed their album, their excited faces still shone brightly....

Last year, the most anticipated power 5 member group SHINee who received the Newcomer Award in Korea, has managed to achieve another breakthrough during late May on their first anniversary, setting their feet on Japan! The first step will be the special edition release of their latest mini album [ROMEO] in Japan on the 29th of July. This will be followed up by the highly anticipated first visit, as well as a planned first event, to Japan on the 10th of August. Their popularity is expected to soar with this opportunity.

As such, we met up with SHINee who will be making their first appearance, and listened to their passionate hearts for music as well as the special points about their new songs. Do experience the fiery souls of the singers in this fresh new story!

--Congratulations on your oncoming First Anniversary. (This interview was done on 20th May)

Jonghyun: Our first album was released last year on 23rd May, and our first TV live broadcast was on 25th May. In Korea the first TV live broadcast is the debut day, so SHINee's debut day should 25th May.

-- Do you have any plans for that day?

Key: I want to have a quiet celebratory party at the dorm with the members. Reflect on what has happened in the past year, or just simply chat with each other and things like that.

-- Just quietly like this?? You should celebrate it more elaborately...

Jonghyun: Even though we are not sure about this, but I will want to go back to the dorm, and have a celebration with just the members. The atmosphere is also like this for the members' birthdays. On this commemorative day, the 5 of us can have a heart to heart talk, I will like to spend it quietly like this.

Key: And take photos together, to remember this special occasion.

--Reflecting over this past year, what memories come to your mind??

Onew: What will there be, a year has already passed, I can't seem to believe it. (laughs)

Key: So fast, really~ (laughs)

Onew: In my memory, debuting has been like a dream, it's so wonderful, and we received a lot of love from everyone. And won the Newcomer Award too, it's really been a dynamic year.

Minho: Accumulated many different experiences that I never had before, I think it has been a precious year.

--Then continuing on, what was it like a year ago?

Taemin: Before debut we had a showcase, so we were constantly practising. Sometime that is very memorable is the incident when we were all locked out of the dorm because we all did not have the key. We left it somewhere...So we had to play scissors, paper, stone, to decide who should bring the key back. (laughs)

--Scissors, paper, stone, who lost??

Taemin: Me and....Who was it?? 2 of us went eventually.

Jonghyun: It wasn't me.

Key: Definitely not me too.

Minho: Oh?? It's not me either.

Onew: Then, it's me?? But I don't really remember. (laughs)

Jonghyun: We are still living together in the dorm now.

-- Listening to SHINee's song, the beautiful harmony makes people excited. Does that have to do with living together?

Jonghyun: I think that plays a big role. Even though we all have different personalities, but living together allows us to understand each other?? Maybe that is the influence created.

Onew: It's not just the harmony, but also the dancing. For the pop-dance recently, we have reached the stage that once we look into another member's eyes, we will know what he is thinking. I guess it's because we understand each other that's why it can happen.

--True. Then which artiste has been a source of influence for everyone?

Jonghyun: Our sunbaes from the same company, Dong Bang Shin Ki sunbaenim and Super Junior sunbaenim.

Onew: Me too. I feel that our members have been heavily influenced by the 2 sunbae groups.

Taemin: I really respect Michael Jackson. I really look up to his ability to sweep fans like me off our feet.

--In your first album, 'Love Like Oxygen' for some unknown reason, actually sounded similar to Michael Jackson in the enunciation

Taemin: Yes! We did some referencing and after listening to a few times, we really think we got influenced...

Minho: I listen to songs by Justin Timberlake and Usher. I also really respect Dong Bang Shin Ki sunbaenim and Super Junior sunbaenim.

Key: For me it's not so much to do with the genre. Pop jazz, Korean songs, pop songs, I listen to them all.

--For pop jazz, who do you listen to?

Key: Yui, Koda Kumi, Ayumi Hamasaki, B'z, Namie Amuro...And many more...

--Then, where do you get your news from?

Key: Through the internet, surfing Hit Chart.

-Then you must stand on the same stage as the pop jazz singers. On 29th July, your special Japanese edition album will be released.

Jonghyun: Yes. Our latest album [ROMEO] is going to be released in Japan, we are already looking forward to see the kind of response that it will generate.

-- So, do some introduction for [ROMEO]?

Jonghyun: There are 6 songs in total. These 6 songs can be felt through a story. The 6 songs have been smoothly arranged, we are really happy that to let everyone experience the 6 songs through a story....Eh???????

Onew: You are saying the same thing again. (laughs)

Key: Isn't Jonghyun hyung strange today?? His expressions are different from how when he usually speaks. (laughs)

Minho: Yes. Quite stiff.

Jonghyun: I feel strange too. I am feeling nervous for some reason. (laughs)

|--Why?

Jonghyun: Actually this is the first time we are formally doing an interview by the Japanese media. So I am a little nervous. (laughs)

--Really? (laughs) So what about your mini album?

Jonghyun: There are 6 tracks included inside. These 6 tracks are connected through a story....I am saying the same thing again. (laughs)

Onew: (laughs) The title of the album is 'ROMEO' and the title track is 'JULIETTE'. The entire theme is about 'Romeo & Juliet'.

Taemin: It's the feeling of 21st century Romeo & Juliet.

Onew: Correct, the lyrics of the 6 songs are very meaningful. The awkwardness of first love, confession, conflicts, parting, a story spun off from these.

--The title track 'Juliette' has a shocking lyrics composition???!!!

Jonghyun: Yes, it's me. (laughs) It's my first composition.

-- The lyrics are really passionate.

Jonghyun: Thank you. I wanted to write a love story, so I wrote those lyrics that are beautiful and passionate. My inspiration was from the well known story of Romeo & Juliet, I watched the movie version of Romeo & Juliet and wrote the lyrics.

--Leonardo Di Caprio?

Jonghyun: No. The earlier one. The one where Olivia Hussey acted as Juliet.

--Actually, the lyrics are like a representation of a passionate love?

Jonghyun: Hmmm? Me? I am the representation of passionate love???

-- Ah. Really??

Jonghyun: No~ No. I will like to try though. (laughs) *

-- What do the other 4 feel about Juliette's lyrics?

Minho: The content really suits the theme of the album. I really like it.

Taemin: I feel that because it's written by Jonghyun hyung, that itself is very meaningful. ,

Onew: Yes, having a member to write the lyrics, compared to the songs now, it's easier to understand the content of the lyrics, it's also easier to put emotions into performing the song. ]

--In the lyrics, there is this part about 'Give you my soul', it's very striking.

Onew: Yes. I think this is the crux of the lyrics. It presents the pure and romantic love very smoothly. I really like this part too.

Key: When I first saw the lyrics, I thought it was written by some poet.

--Does Jonghyun want to give his soul to women?

Jonghyun: Eh??!! Ah.......No...........Isn't it a little hot here now?

--Trying to avoid the question huh. (laughs)

Jonghyun: Hahahahahahaha.

Onew: That, even though the lyrics are a little old fashioned, but the song and dance are very trendy. The contrast provide an image that makes people happy

--So, for your first event in Japan on 10th Auguest, come and display your prowess.

Jonghyun: It's the first time we are meeting the Japanese fans, so we are really looking forward. Other than Minho, it's the first time the rest are going to Japan.

Minho: I went once with my family when I was young. This time I am going as SHINee, so I am very happy.

Onew Really anticipating it, but also a little worried. We are concerned about the response of our fans.

Taemin: Then it will be successful too!!

--Lastly, let's have everyone talk about their reason for doing music.

Jonghyun: Music is something that I am confident about, so I will do it.

Taemin: Whether it is singing or dancing, it's part of my life.

Key: When I want to sing, I sing. When I want to dance, I dance.

Minho: Music is, something that gives you strength when you are sad, something that gives you happiness when you are happy. So I want to make music my career.

Onew: Because I love music, so I want to use music to express what I want to say. I can't imagine my life without music.
