Former idol group member assaults aspiring teenage singer

A request for an arrest warrant has been filed against Ko Young-wook, a member of idol group Roo’Ra from the 1990s.
Yongsan Police announced yesterday that it is currently investigating Ko after he allegedly lured an aspiring teenage singer with alcohol before raping her.

According to the police, Ko saw the wannabe celebrity on a variety show on TV last month. Ko took an immediate interest in the young girl and called up the cable channel to get her number. He then made contact, promising the young girl that he’d help her get started in the entertainment industry. When they met up in person, Ko said to the girl, “People will recognize me, let’s go somewhere we can talk,” before taking her back to his studio in Yongsan.

At Ko’s residence, Ko prompted the teenager to drink various alcohol before raping her. Then few days later the two met up again and Ko asked the girl to become his “lover,” and pressured her to have sex with him again.

The police was notified of the incident through an organization that specializes in schoolyard violence prevention. Ko made an official apology yesterday and said that his version of the story was yet to be told.

Hopefully there would be no Settlement on this case cause SK need to see sex offender getting jail time.
Maybe it will help them realize that it's not okay

This. That bothered me a lot about this case. For sure, Go Young Wook should not have made that phonecall in the first place to get the girl's info. However, since he did, the company should have contacted the girl first and notified her that someone wanted her contact info and ask permission to give it out or not. If the company gave out the info without the girl's permission, that is a serious breach in privacy.

Then again, the girl probably would have agreed if they did ask for her permission :( /sighs

Maybe companies need to keep minors' contact info on lock period, no matter who asks. Contact the manager, parent, guardian, etc. instead. Let them go with the minor to see whoever wants to contact them.

I don't know. I'm trying to come up with decent solutions to prevent something like this from happening again (or keep it at bay as much as possible).

One thing is for sure: people should never try to manipulate other people anyway. That solve A LOT of problems.

Sorry for my long response. OTL

THIS. Are these companies not bound by a code of ethics or do they just pretend it doesn't exist? And did the cable channel not find his behaviour suspicious in the least?

Ugh what kind of sick person would you have to be to go out of your way to get the number of a MINOR...

Someone should have found it to be suspicious. But then again, maybe it happens all the time to the point where it doesn't seem suspicious at all? o__O Like...major companies, organizations, and entertainment people call to set up meetings with others all the time. I'm sure if a photographer from a major magazine wanted someone to come and do a photoshoot for him/her, he/she would contact that person. The photographer would find the contact information through the singer/actor/actress' company or manager.

Of course, this is where the code of ethics and such stuff comes into play. Get the photographer's message and let so-and-so know someone called and asked to get in contact with him/her about doing a photoshoot. /shrug I don't know how the entertainment world works, but this just seems like normal business practice that should be applied everywhere.

mte!!!

it's like a fucking sickness, they think they can get away with it so they publicly try to...and they never get a harsh enough sentence when they are convicted and the public doesn't shun them the way they should be.

All aspiring singers out there need to be more careful honestly, show biz is not all glam and rainbows as they said.

Yup, that there is rape. No need for 'your side' of the story.

...one thing that confuses me though, is that I've seen 'statutory rape' used in relation to this case, but isn't South Korea's age of consent 13? :/ Something else that needs changing, shit.

From: [identity profile] shineebambi.livejournal.com
I think it's more like the US where the age of consent is 14-15 but that's only if both partners are under 18 other wise the age of consent is 18
