Police investigating former Roo’ra member Go Young Wook for alleged sexual assault

Singer and former Roo’ra member Go Young Wook (37) is currently being investigated by the police under suspicion of sexually assaulting a minor (In Korea 19 is the age of consent).


Seoul Yongsan Police Station revealed on May 8th that female ‘A’ (18) had previously guest-featured on a television program. Allegedly, after seeing her on television, Go Young Wook then called the head producer of the program and obtained her contact information, and is now under investigation under suspicions of sexually assaulting her.

Female ‘A’ has sued Go Young Wook, and a representative from the police station remarked, “The investigation is still ongoing, and whether or not this is true will be determined after additional investigation takes place.”

Go Young Wook is reported to be considering the best way to handle this situation. A source remarked, “He feels wrongly accused. He will report his official statement when he is organized.”

Meanwhile, Go Young Wook was a fixed panel member on the hit MBC program, ‘We Got Married‘.

The mention of the age of consent being 19 had me puzzled (yet quite happy) so I did some research  and apparently ​based on the criminal law the age of consent is 13 but based on Protection of Minors from Sexual Exploitation Law it's 19.

It's not too complicated - one is the statutory bar on consent (13), the other is based on the age of majority - (19).

Gun to my head, 아동청소년의성보호에관한법률 is the referenced statute and serves to increase the severity of any sentences handed out on sex crimes committed against minors (that 19 again). It's more aimed at sex trafficking and mandates treatment and counselling for the victims, which is nice, but doesn't really change much in this case other than the mandatory minimums involved.

i remember during one episode of Day & Night he and Lizzy were the guests and Lizzy kinda just blurted out that during a program/event he was hitting on her and tried to get her MSN. Lizzy told him to GTFO and i had a feeling that from her description she found him to be super creepy.
