John Park despises when men use aegyo.

On MBC’s Music and Lyrics, John Park and Park Jin Hee, his partner on the show, were working diligently towards the creation of their special song.

During the episode, Park Jin Hee asked John Park to show her some aegyo. John Park responded with,

“When a woman shows her aegyo, she looks cute, but when a man shows his aegyo, it’s digusting.”


Park Jin Hee began laughing hysterically about John Park’s honest expression.

John Park further confessed,

“I’m not good at expressing aegyo.”

During the episode, Park Jin Hee created an imaginary scene where John Park would call his upset girlfriend (role played by Park Jin Hee) and try to brighten up her mood.

John Park was hesitant at playing his role, but he made an attempt. He started off by saying,

“I’m happy that I can to see Jin Hee”

but he couldn’t go any further due to embarrassment.

It's more about who's doing it, and wether he's being serious or not. Also a lot about the age. I'm sorry, but when I see someone of a certain age doing aegyo (be it a woman or a man) I think I just feel confused. Culture shock, I guess, lol.

I once did aegyo in a Chinese restaurant towards a friend with noodles dangling off my mouth going "So yummy" as a joke. He was so embarrassed lol, so was I. Basically aegyo just doesn't work at all, it's really cringeworthy. So I'm with you John park.

Whether man or woman, it depends on who's doing it and how. A lot of the times, especially when the MCs make idols do it on shows, it looks really over-the-top and forced and just plain awkward. Other times when it comes out more naturally, it's fine.

Honestly, I can't stand aegyo. At all. I find it really embarrassing and gag-inducing, no matter who's doing it. I think it's because the act of "doing aegyo" just seems so forced and fake. I normally love cute things--animals, babies, toys, etc. And I like people who are adorable but they're not trying to be, if that makes any sense.

Some people's personalities and faces are pre-disposed for aegyo gold while others…look hella awkward. It's really awkward when men and women are prompted to do aegyo on variety shows. Contrived cuteness is not a good look. I think most people are adorable when they are completely unawares. This is why I love fancams, they can capture the best aegyo because there's no pressure or pretense, it's just that person acting, naturally dorky and cute.

I do aegyo all the time. ^^" Not even to people, sometimes I just...do aegyo, like when I'm thinking I have an automatic aegyo face (unintentional, but I've been made aware). I like it.
