ikr Kai is so lovely. ;_; But he tries so hard, and I seriously think that he works it every-time. He has some ridic amount of stamina tbh, even when he had to go screamo.
all i can think of listening/seeing this is how dbsk didn't even have background music during their debut stage and they blew people away. this is really really disappointing.
history was a hot mess. the background was like not loud enough for their singing and their voices didn't blend at all during the chorus. D.O. saved that performance tbh.
mama was a lot better. and they sound quite good in the mr removed version. the 3 lead vocals were all pretty steady. baekhyun did much better in this than history. suho was great.
I hate that people are all like "well, they suck, and they will always suck" Excuse me, very few groups debut and have such a kickass choreography and sing perfectly well live. DBSK just came to mind... how much of a facepalm their debut stage was. Adorable as fuck, but it was messy and embarrassing tbh. EXO debuted last week, and despite the bazillion years of training they've had, nothing prepares you to sing on national TV and be on the spotlight. If they continue sucking in the future, then I'll shut up, but before people say they suck forever, give these kids the chance to grow and get used to it.

dbsk's debut may have been messy, but they established right from the get go that they could sing, which, sorry to say, is what should come first with music; not how well a group dances together or how pretty/cute/hot/etc they look in pictures, but how well they can actually sing their damn music.

So, I don't get it guys? Is it really bad? I get that history was messy etc. But I thought mama was really, really good tbqh, especially considering the dance, the fact they harmonised (tried too?), and had hand-mics, especially for rookies.
Then again, that might just be me. :/ Music was never really my strong point.

They have a long way to go, but overall mama wasn't too bad. Better than some MR's I've heard from more senior groups (T-ara and Kara come to mind atm)
This is kinda cute. My sister is watching them on tv right and trying to explain to my dad how Exo M and Exo K work.

I'm willing to look past these few performances because we know they have the talent and are capable of much more. I remember MBLAQ saying how hard their debut stage was since they didn't know anything about multiple recordings. I think once EXO gets used to this routine they'll be more comfortable on stage.
I'm genuinely curious as to why all of them are such a bundle of nerves every time though. Looking back at the debuts this past year, I thought the groups were all pretty confident like B1A4, Block B and B.A.P. Is it the hype, the high expectations the public has of them? They all look so frightened all the time, like they weren't prepared for their debut :\

But, honestly it's obvious that they felt a stage fright, and I really believe they are capable of bringing a much better performance.
Eek to both performances. Baekhyun saved MAMA kinda. I feel like they should have been trained more, but they have debuted now so they just need to keep on improving from here on out.
OT, but this is making me think of how Eunhyuk couldn't sing to save his life in the beginning, and is now singing 'Cracks Of A Broken Heart' (or w/e it's called) ... ;_; He'll never be the best, but I really love his voice.
I'm so excited about this group tbh. I'm just so excited to like a group again, and know I can watch them mess-up, and improve etc. As a fan, that's the best part for me, no group, no matter how delusional you may be, started out perfect, they fail, and mess-up, and get better, and they still fail, and mess-up sometimes when they should be better.

it's like, you're using the same tool, your breathing, to do the two things that fully and essentially require it, AT THE SAME TIME.
people complaining about performers sounding "disappointing" or breathless is just a typical case of TAKING THINGS FOR GRANTED. we got used to high quality performances from amazing and experienced artists, and when we stumble upon someone who is anything but PERFECT, we deem them unfit, when they're actually just not above human reach. I mean, seriously, listen to MAMA, the vocalist line sound great! they sound more breathless in history because THEY'RE DANCING THEIR SOULS OUT IN IT GET A CLUE
Yikes at "History." The look of pure terror on poor Kai's face when the song started will never be forgotten. His stage presence and swag just diminished in half when he actually has to hold a microphone and sing while dancing. Everybody else was just off in that performance.
"MAMA" was actually pretty good, considering how hard it is to even perform an SMP song live. Baekhyun was amazing.
It's strange seeing EXO being so nervous in their debut stages when you compare them to SHINee who just blew everyone away in their debut performances.
