well i meant more in volume up. i haven't listened to the other songs enough yet. she gets no camera time and if it wasn't for her solo she'd get lines either and she's crying i think they beat her.
solid mini imo. although the album tracks aren't the type that jump at you and stick in your head, everything is really well-produced. i love how they didn't go for the usual k-pop sound and experimented.
i like say my name, femme fatale, and dream racer the most. i think this mini is up there with for muzik and hit your heart. idt this mini will be popular tho, it seems more suited for j-pop listeners or smth.
Not as outstanding as the HUH mini album, but still very enjoyable. Sohyun and Jihyun once again showed improvement! My favourite would have to be Dream Racer.
The album has a few really good moments. I love "Volume up" - the more I listen to it, the better and more addictive it gets though I still don't like Jihyun's part towards the end because it doesn't seem to connect that well with the rest of the song. "I'm OK" might be their best ballad since "Anjullae". I really like it when they do more emotional, warmer songs. I also like "Dream Racer", especially Sohyun's parts, although the chorus took me some time to get used to. (And this is a general problem I have with the songs they give 4minute: the choruses with their loooooong notes by Gayoon and Jiyoon can be really grating at times.)
The rest of the mini is pretty mediocre forgettable stuff sr2s.
Hyunah almost disappears on most of the songs, unfortunately. And this is why I think there can never be enough of her in their MVs! The visual aspects of the job as an idol really are her forté because she has this amazing stage and on-camera presence that only very few kpop artists have. (The other 4 girls in 4minute might be pretty and sexy in their own ways but they're just missing that special x factor thing.) I get why some people might be put off by the type of sexiness Hyunah embodies because it looks like she took too much literal inspiration from strippers and porn actresses. But if her aesthetics of expressing her sexuality in a more aggressive way isn't your cup of tea, then why not just leave? Why all this double standard, regressive slut shaming? *seriously side-eyeing some of the comments in the Volume up MV post*
Generally I don't disagree, but here's my problem: it's not my cup of tea, but I like her aside from the dancing. I don't think she's a bad rapper or a horrible singer. I like the whole group, my bias is Gayoon. The song isn't bad, the MV was simply a bit too much for me, on all ends, not only Hyunah. I'd keep way if I could, but that I love the group is making it somewhat impossible.
Point taken. I'm wondering how Cube is justifying Hyunah's screentime in the MV... If they think she earned being on screen more than the others by working her way up with her solo promotions then I have to ask myself why that Gayoon/Jiyoon duo never happened. That would have been a good chance to let the two girls show what they have to offer and make them more known to casual followers. It would have been a perfect lead-in to 4minute group promotions as well.
Oh well, we'll see how they'll do as a group on stage later this week. My guess is that it'll be more balanced again with Gayoon, Jiyoon and Sohyun (and Jihyun, though she hasn't really improved) getting attention through their vocal performances and Hyunah getting to dance in the center of the stage ;)
Say My Name is a nice song and the rest is okay, still like the sax in Volume Up and Get On The Floor is cool too. Can't with Dream Racer though, the song does nothing to me.
After a few listens Volume Up has really grown on me too as well as the video being awesome. Looking forward to seeing them do it live.
I'm glad Cube have featured Sohyun more on this album as he voice has matured nicely. It's a shame not all the songs are particularly memorable. There's quite a lot going on in most of them. However that works quite well in Dream Racer which I've already replayed a few times, ngl.

maybe one day you can give them a try! they dont put on acts on variety shows or try super hard, they're all just really nice girls! enjoy the jamz for now tho!!
