Actress Lee Da-hae displays her excellent command of Mandarin in a video clip uploaded on YouTube recently. Her management agency said the sneak preview of a Chinese soap opera was apparently uploaded by a Chinese staffer and had been circulating in China before it hit the global video website.

"Lee has worked very hard on mastering Chinese, and her efforts are paying off," it said in a press release.

Lee is the first Korean actress to perform in Mandarin in a Chinese soap opera. Until now, Korean actors spoke their lines in Korean and were dubbed, but Lee memorized all her lines in Mandarin and spent lot of time studying the language.

Lee's management agency said, "Lee communicates well with local staff in Chinese and delivers her lines without problem because she had been studying Mandarin for seven years, looking for opportunities in China." Lee has been shooting TV drama "Love Recipe" in Shanghai since last month. It is to be aired in China nationwide in August.

Is her Mandarin good, Omona? I don't speak the language so I have no idea.

her pronunciation and tones are quite precise, some tones would be off but her speech is understandable (first clip was quite clear).
she doesn't jumble up her words when speaking fast or slow (my greatest challenge with understanding Kor-Chinese) which helps to decipher the more questionable words.

for 7 years worth of studying, it's pretty accented and .. as if she's just idk, reading it aloud from the script, but i think it's really cool of her to be memorizing the lines.

i understood about half of that, her accent makes it hard to distinguish some sounds but at least she emphasizes the right parts of the sentence

i remember her on happy camp (a chinese variety/talk show) a while back and she was pretty good, at least she didn't have a translator. she writes journal entries in chinese which is way more than i can do lol. like ppl have said, accented but mostly understandable.

her accent is pretty strong, but i understood everything. she doesn't really put the right emphasis on the right words, which takes away from her acting, but what can you do, lol.
