Male idol band CNBLUE guest-featured on the latest airing of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook‘.

Lead vocalist Jung Yonghwa shared how he resolved an internal conflict that arose between himself and the company.

MC Yoo Hee Yeol asked, “As a band, you guys probably want to try powerful and intense music, but your company most likely wants you to pursue music that appeals to the masses. How do you feel about this?

As a matter of fact, we wanted to change our style a little bit,” Yonghwa said. “But our agency wanted us to maintain our current style. I got really upset.”

Our head representative caught on that I was upset, and he personally took me out to eat rib eye BBQ at a place in Chungdamdong,” he continued. “He said that we should try and work hard with the opportunities given to us members.”

You can check out the full interview and performances from the program below.

Ouch, FNC sucks. I hate when Korean companies do this kind of stuff 'cause it rips the group from chances to develop themselves as well as their audience and in the end leads to diminishing audience because stagnant music. I wish FNC considered if Seo Taiji had been so damn successful if he hadn't experienced so much or had Big Bang ever become as popular as they are now if YG had forced them to produce the music they did pre Lies area?

but big bang and seo taiji are household names because they're some of the only people to have wandered away to do their own thing and benefited from it? as a company it makes sense they're going to stick to what seems to work. i mean, it is true they'd probably lose a lot of their fanbase if they started having a more hardcore sound. i pity the group members though.

But they're not going hardcore, just want to progress their sound. They'll lose their fans if they keep releasing their similar sounding title tracks aswell tbh. Their JPN releases have been great and they've said that's closer to what they want to do, FNC just wants to control their sounds, it's why they didn't let Jonghyun even participate in the new mini. I can't completely blame them since CNB is their cash cow but Yonghwa and Jonghyun really don't like like they're having fun in their lives.

THIS...

i love their Japanese release so much more since they have more freedom to sing with their own style with their own song and can play live there compare to Korean promo where they they to follow all the stupid rules that restricting their talent, creativity and unable to play live in most shows :P

i really want them to grow more as artist and musician in the future but it really hard in Korea that is why i prefer them in Japan :P

You can see they're not happy to go from playing live for a year to go back to holding instruments and not playing them.

Date: 2012-04-01 02:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shunluv.livejournal.com
yeah it is too obvious they are not happy at all when they have to faking playing the instrument most of the time in Korea yeah after 1 year of playing live of course it feel empty and don't have emotion...
while in the show above they have so much fun and energy singing while playing live which is how it should be in all show<3
i prefer they appear in this type of show that allowed them to played live than show like Music Bank faking everything, yeah the show is important for their promotion but when the boys not happy im as fans also sad...

i just to see them having the freedom to do their own style and spread their wings more<3

they dont play live on the music shows? D: man i feel bad for them. no band wants to sit there like mannequins and not play their own instruments.

Music shows just don't have the time or the space to let them set up. So it's all props

I just assumed they did like the japanese, since on Music Station the bands play live. (as far as I know anyway)

It's really complicated, MS do play live though. Basically Korean shows think it's too much of a hassle.

so .... are they going to change it or not? Because Yonghwa said when their new mini came out that the next album would show a totally different style... I hope so. I mean, I love everything they come up with, but variety is always welcome. Most perfect group ;~~~;

blame composer kim dohyun and president han. idk man, ergh. all their comeback or title songs are written by kim dohyun, the guy who wrote I'm A Loner, Love and Intuition. o look, he did Hey you too! =_=

tbh if they used the other songs on their track as their title song, it'll be so much better. i rili like rock n roll. run was nice too. IMH kor ver is a mess.
sigh.

dk why i suddenly thought of wonbin when i read this. *_*

thanks..

seriously i don't like that guy at all as well as FNS forcing the boys using that man song for all their title song T_T
the only song of him that i like is Loner only but the others after that only sound similar and no improvement but they insist the boys singing his song just for money purpose where the boys could get so much royalty with their own song but not allowed to do so T_T
seriously FNS don't even care what the boys and the fans want but only their own profit...

damn im so glad he can't do anything at them in Japan :P

Yong Hwa and Jong Hyun self-compose song is millionth times better that that man song :P
i wish they will be given more chance to use their song than being force singing song that they don't like...
Korean music industry just so sad with not much freedom for artist to express themselves especially the band...

Says a lot about the company/the ceo eh? He can't even trust that the boys will do a good job at producing an impressive album which their fans would like. They've proven themselves capable so idk what this guy's problem is.

What I find strange is the Loner situation was hell for the boys, to be looked down upon by everyone but FNC shamelessly went back to KDH who's embroiled in plagiarism and continues to make the same track over again. FNC screw you, on all their albums the songs with Yong or Jong credits are way better. Get over yourselves. I feel like they're trying to control CNB.

Date: 2012-04-01 02:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] in-noctem.livejournal.com
I get the impression that fans are generally more receptive towards songs written by a group's member. Idk why FNC doesn't realise this and give their groups more creative control over their music. Do they not surf the internet? Are they not aware that fans prefer their self-written songs/japanese releases more than the title songs the company forces onto them? Surely you'd want to do what makes fans happy because then they'd be more likely to buy the albums. The company makes money either way, which seems to be the only thing they care about anyway.

I don't even listen to CN Blue but watching a group not enjoying their performances makes it really difficult and sad to watch. They are capable of so much more than what the company allows them to do.

Oh man reading the post and all the comments this is totally like a Shut Up Flower Boy Band situation. Like them wanting to do their own music and style and the management trying to bleed the creativity out them until they are nothing but empty idol puppets. Depressing. I feel bad for CN Blue, I love the few songs I've heard where a member created the song, vs this recent song I heard where it was clearly not their own and it was so boring and bland and It upsets me that they have talent and its not being properly utilized and cultivated by their management. Everyone saying their Japanese stuff is better, does anyone know where I can take a listen to that stuff? I'd love to hear it! Esp live stuff. Bands are always better live. well good bands are.

You can watch them on Unplugged! I watched without knowing the songs and still enjoyed it a lot. Jonghyun's song (at the start of the second part) was particularly lovely.

You can also watch their concert here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwE8afLhIbw&feature=related). It's nice to see them enjoying themselves on stage.

also this is totally random but you wouldnt happen to know who wrote 2NE1's I am the best would you? I was doing some googling for it since its one of my fave kpop songs and i have no idea who's responsible for it! I checked wiki and it wasnt listed there and google turned up nothing. was it Teddy? anybody know? ;_;

yeah i feel bad for them, apparently they dont get to play their own instruments. i dont blame them for being kind of disconnected for that reason. for a musician part of the joy of performing is in playing one's own music and musical instruments. and like someone said upthread would Big Bang be half as popular if YG forced them into a corner musically? instead of letting the guys come up with their own stuff?

I like their Korean stuff, but it can't even compare to their Japanese stuff and it's obv due to the fact that they have more control over the latter. I will never understand why FNC continues to outsource CN BLUE's songwriting when Yonghwa and Jonghyun are both completely competent at it and the stuff that they write shits all over the stuff that they don't.

ugh this is why i hate it when companies try to limit the creativity of their artists because sooner or later, it could have an impact towards the group's dynamic, and internal problems could occur
