South Koreans aged under 18 have been banned from attending an upcoming concert by US pop diva Lady Gaga after it was rated unsuitable for younger audiences, according to organisers.

Lady Gaga will begin her third concert tour, "The Born This Way Ball", on April 27 at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul.

The show had an initial age rating of 12 and older but the Korea Media Rating Board, a state watchdog, has adjusted it upwards, said event organiser Hyundai Card.

"Our company will respect the board's decision and refund all ticketholders younger than 18," a Hyundai Card official told AFP, declining to be named. Some religious groups in South Korea have opposed the concert, saying Lady Gaga has advocated homosexuality and performed in an explicitly sexual manner.

"Our Christian community needs concerted action to stop young people from being infected with homosexuality and pornography," the Korean Association of Church Communication said in a statement.

Lady Gaga is expected to do 110 shows this year following on the success of her smash hit "Born This Way".

The eccentric star, who has a record number of almost 22 million followers on Twitter, will kick off her world tour in Seoul.

From there she will take her pop hits and extravagant costumes to Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia, where she will stage six shows.

I also can't stand it when movies are rated for adult content when the plot simply includes homosexuality but without even having any full-on sex scenes that would warrant such a rating. It's no wonder that most movies that do include homoerotic concepts tend to add explicit sex scenes just so that they take full advantage of the given rating, resulting in children/teenagers not being exposed to such content offline and therefore less awareness would be raised.

It's not rated 18 because of sexuality, the official explanation is that some of her songs that talk about clubbing and drinking are rated R and so the show has to be rated R.

I've heard some pretty interesting stories about Gaga's tours, and imo her show is a bit much for an unsupervised 12 year old. But if a parent/older sibling/whatever thinks their kid can handle it and is cool to take them, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to. The only time a venue should ban under 18s is if it's a bar or nightclub.

Japan claims that? Pfffff, no way I can believe that, give me a source. Homophobia is what was imported from the west. Japan has a long and glorious tradition of manly samurai men boning their younger male comrades. Even Oda Nobunaga was enjoying the sweet fruits of young men (notably Mori Ranmaru). Anyone who isn't in total denial of Japanese history (google 'shudo' or 'nanshoku') knows this. Japan was a big gay island of gay (no such thing as lesbians, though).

In my opinion, most of the fan service or cross-dressing the K-POP idols do for their fans are ridiculing the idea of homosexuality instead of promoting it.

Especially SuJu. They do it, exaggerate it then laugh at themselves. I'm not saying every member in SuJu does that or no other groups do it, but more than half of SuJu have been repeat offenders and pointedly guilty of being just plain rude about it. It's obvious they have a ball making a "joke" out of it.

if you want to make sure everyone reads something you ban it, same applies for music and movies, people end up being curious...but you know don't the kids parents know how to say no if their kid asks to go see a concert? banning it seems unfair to kids and whose parents don't have a problem with her. Also do they have PG rating's for things like this? like the kids could go if they are with a guardian or something? If the watchdog really believes that the content is not suitable then fine but on what grounds do they make that assertion? was it purely pressure from religious groups? if so >.>

(and I'm not even a fan of hers but it gets me pretty miffed when people ban books and music on 'religious grounds')

Either way, I think its its up to the parents then it would encourage discussion about the topic, if my mum told me not to see/watch such and such I would probably ask her why and we'd talk about it, and if she really felt adamant about it I probably do as she says because I respect her opinion.
