On the March 23rd episode of KBS‘s ‘Star Life Theater‘, 2AM‘s Changmin sat down for an interview and honestly discussed his experience with weight loss.

After spending the day with 2AM, reporters noticed that while the other members freely ate ramen as snacks between meals, Changmin would insist on snacking on chicken breasts or sausages.

Changmin explained, “I used to weigh over 100 kg. I lost 18 kg in three weeks and about 30 kg in six weeks. I only ate two blocks of tofu and ran six hours a day. After that, I ate healthily and exercised often to keep the weight down.”

He continued, “As a singer, showing myself to the public is a part of the job. The stage is not just about your song, as it’s actually a combination of visuals and sounds.”

For the past four years, Changmin wakes up at 6:30 a.m. on his own and makes sure to get daily exercise into his busy schedule.

Netizens commented, “30 kg in six weeks? He must’ve worked really hard,” “He could accomplish anything with that determination, makes me reflect on myself.”

Honestly, normal people should not try to lose 30kg in 6weeks. That is not healthy and usually you will just yo-yo back up.
And also, when you lose weight super fast, your skin stretches and it looks weird. You can tell by the parenthesis around his mouth. :\

But of course, people are going to think these results are something to reach for.
I've lost 12lbs in the past 10 weeks. Still coming off, I'm no rush, but it's better just to go slow or else you will crash and then go back up again.
1-2 lbs a week is the best way to go!!

Parenthesis around his mouth? I thought those were just smile lines. I have those too, and I've always been a small person.

Yeah, I agree with her other points except that one since I've had mine for years and haven't gone through any significant weight changes either

His are not normal parenthesis, but very deep, because the skin of is cheeks has been stretched. My friend who lost over 100lbs has this too. Not the small ones, but the kind of face that sinks down into the ( ).

I can't explain deeper than that, but to me it looks much different from normal laugh lines

Ahh, okay. Yeah, they are carved pretty deep on his face, so I can see what you mean.

I was thinking about the skin too, losing that much weight so fast would have left him with saggy skin all over.

I take these claims with a grain of salt, same as with Kangin and TOP. Yes they lost large amounts of weight, but did they really do it in the time frame the media claims?

As for TOP - I think the reason he doesn't go shirtless is due to the weight loss.
It's certainly possible, but not probable.

I lost 30kg in 3/4 months with a nutrition doctor, the only thing i had problems with, was my sight, my eyes were weird like if i was dizzy, like in an early stage of getting drunk, idk how to describe it, it was just weird and it was because of low sugar in blood, later on i got better, and even when i stopped doing the diet i still lost some weight, i got really really skinny, then i gained a few kgs naturally and haven't gained weight in years. (and i eat like a pig most of the time xD)

The best thing is to go to a profesional, and even in those cases you might experience problems with a big weight loss in a short ammount of time, like happened to me for being too strict with myself.

my friend told me that a few weeks after the show finished those losers gained their weight before the show, so.

The "right environment" in biggest loser has to do with those people being extremely obese. When you go from obese to hardcore exercise, the pounds fall off that quickly. when you go from normal weight to hardcore exercise, it becomes extreme and unhealthy. Also, Biggest Loser contestants are being coached by professionals and monitored 24/7. I'm sure Changmin has a coach or two, but overall his health and fitness plan is ridiculous and unhealthy.

That's ridiculous. I mean, really? He's naturally a little chunky, he shouldn't have to put himself through that just to be on TV.

Intestinal villi don't have that great or efficient of a blood supply so exercising for hours on end like that puts one at risk of some gnarly ischemic damage to those parts. It's pretty insane and the whole science of this culture of 'reporting' really leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Very little integrity or consideration of the effects it can have on the general public.

Korea doesn't seem to care much about the "health" part of being "healthy" when they report weight related issues.

it's so fucking boring...like even if you're stationary watching tv or going somewhere outside i fucking hate running. you could not pay me enough to run for 6 hours a day. ever. not even CNU as a husband forever, just saying...

I think at least a quarter of K-pop posts are about weight loss and body image. =_= Only eating two blocks of tofu is ridiculous, as delicious as tofu is.

Everyone needs a copy of Medical Nutrition (http://www.amazon.com/Medical-Nutrition-Disease-Case-Based-Approach/dp/1405186151/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332655997&sr=8-1) ffs. Especially the Korean media.

I admire his hard work and dedication. I wake up 530 am everyday to run and go to the gym in between classes and everyday its a pain in the ass and I'm kind of stuck with where I am. People call me crazy but what can we do? we don't have the luxury of eating of whatever we want and not gain it.
I feel like korean stars get a lot of shit from koreans when they're "overweight" and they get shit from other people for being crazy about their diet plans. Its so hard for them to please viewers.
I can understand why so many stars try to lose weight because as humans, looks are the first things we notice :(

kpop artists are crazy seriously. A lot of that weight was initially water from dehydration.

geez, they set such bad examples for weight loss

Date: 2012-03-27 02:45 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] supplanter.livejournal.com
Apparently the "water weight" you lose toward the beginning isn't because you're dehydrated per se, but because ppl who go on diets are usually eating less salty foods (though... sausage...) so less water is retained. Still, most of these weight loss posts are absurd.
