MINHO AND SULLI CANDIDATES FOR LEAD ROLES?

As reported last year, SM Entertainment will be producing a new  drama titled “To the Beautiful You,” a Korean adaptation to the mega-popular Japanese manga “Hana Kimi,” which sold over 17 million copies. After a short pause, the drama has resumed its production.

SM has partnered up with the director of “Boys over Flowers,” Jeon Ki Sang, for “To the Beautiful You.” A representative of SM Entertainment announced, “We have resumed productions and plan on broadcasting this year. We will start filming as soon as we
complete auditions for the roles.”

“To the Beautiful You” will be broadcasted on SBS, and there is a high possibility that the drama will take over the Monday-Tuesday night slot this July. A representative of SBS stated, “It [the broadcasting schedule] hasn’t been set in stone, but the story is about high school students. Therefore, it will probably aim for a summer broadcast.”


The original manga has had a Japanese drama version created in 2007 and a Taiwanese version produced in 2006. Both versions were extremely popular.  The story is about Mijukiga, an extreme fan girl of athlete Sano, who moves from her home in America to Japan where Sano lives. She impersonates a guy to attend Sano’s boys only high school. The drama will detail the lives of the school’s pretty boys. SM Entertainment has a slew of good-looking male idol stars who would be perfect for the parts.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the drama’s production had been postponed for a year. However, over the past year, SM Entertainment has been meticulously planning and preparing. It’s been said that SHINee’s Minho and f(x)’s Sulli are the top candidates for the lead roles, exciting fans.

...But Mizuki was known for being short. Sulli's not exactly lacking in the height department. Isn't Mizuki's height a running gag in the series? Or if they do cast Sulli, will they just...not put that in?

Yeah, Mizuki's supposed to be 5'3"/160 cm. Then again, most of the shorter SME girls don't have much acting experience, and it isn't like the other TV adaptions didn't change things . . .

The acting will be so wooden if they're the leads.

Just make Yoona and Siwon the leads, with Kyu or Jonghyun as Nakatsu.

Minho's acting has improved, but not that much.
No one in Shinee is good at acting except for maybe Jinki. But I don't think he'd fit the role.
They should cast one of the EXO members lol.

because the plot is about a girl dressing as a boy, I understand people thinking of amber, but wouldn't that be hella cheap anyway? cheap as in too obvious and boring as in it would feel like a reality/variety show somewhat. and amber is american-taiwanese, acting would be awkward in korean. well, I dunno, but I do like sulli as an actress!

I agree. I never understood why people kept mentioning Amber as the lead for this. The whole point is that Mizuki/whatever Korean name she gets is that's she's girly and doesn't know how to be a boy, and keeps nearly getting caught.

Amber would be way too good at the boy thing.

well, it's not like park minyoung passed as a boy in sungkyunkwan scandal. I mean, I dunno, isn't it part of the humor for the girl trying to be like a boy not to be like a boy at all to the public yet in fiction people just seem to not notice? like when in movies people disguise themselves with only a mustache and people don't recognize them.
