Looks like Seungho is the scariest member on MBLAQ, he almost made fellow member Thunder quit! MBLAQ appeared on the JTBC Brunch Show “Park Kyung Rim’s Oh! Happy Day.” On the show, they spoke about the hardships from their trainee and debut days.
Thunder lived in the Philippines was living with his family before he joined MBLAQ. He was also the last member to join the group. He stated, “When I joined up with MBLAQ I was very unfamiliar with Korea and Korean culture.”
Thunder was asked who picked on him the most and he answered Seungho without hesitation. Thunder said, “In the Philippines we don’t have ‘hyungs’ and ‘dongsengs.’ (Senior, Juniors) However, Seungho emphasized the importance of age. On the first day of training, he took my tracksuit.”
Lee Jun added, “Thunder was scared of Seungho. In the early hours he would call me out and tell me that he couldn’t handle it anymore.”
This episode of “Park Kyung Rim’s Oh! Happy Day” will air on March 19.

Date: 2012-03-19 07:47 am (UTC)TBH I never liked Thunder, but knowing that he grew up with similar values makes me feel closer to him lol, and feel more sorry for him switching to such a diffferent culture.

Date: 2012-03-19 01:57 am (UTC)the age thing gets pretty mind boggling after a while. i mean... my friends always expected me to serve them first at the restaurant/bar and clean up after them just because i was younger by 4 months.. that's not on ):

Date: 2012-03-19 02:42 am (UTC)BUT WITH TIME, he started to display a lot of aegyo, and suddenly he has female friends, and talks about how in his family everyone is in a interracial marriage, and starts to emanate this calm and chill and smart aura (he is indeed pretty intelligent, and even a bit of a teacher's pet kind of nerd). I mean, that's the seungho I "know" and like. so when occasionally I read about him being serious/scary/bro, it just doesn't match the way I see him, and I just assume it's something from the past, I don't know.
I'm just assuming, btw, based on the image I know of him right now. but of course, I only know him from variety and etc, so what do I know.

Date: 2012-03-19 02:43 am (UTC)I think Seungho is hard on most people at first? That along with Thunder acclimating to the culture is bound to create something like that but I'm so happy he toughed it out.

Date: 2012-03-19 03:24 am (UTC)Anyway from hearing Seungho's school stories you can tell that he is very strict about the senior/junior thing. From what I've observed one of the ways of enforcing this is to snap at the junior person. If Thunder is coming into this as someone raised in another culture I can see how this would be scary. Oh and wasn't Thunder's father abusive? I'm sure that added to the fear factor.

Date: 2012-03-19 03:43 am (UTC)i have a friend who went to korea as an exchange student and always saw the juniors greet the seniors in the school and the seniors always ignored them, once he asked them why did they greeted them if they dont greet back, they said "that's just how it's supposed to be" even if he tried to understand what would happen if they don't, they just said they had to... and apparently some people got into fights before for disrespecting a senior
anyway getting out of context lmao, Seungho went through a lot to become a singer i guess he did feel threatened by the other member leaving so he was just trying to protect the group? they seem a lot closer now though ^^ leaderho will always be present tho lol

Date: 2012-03-19 04:29 am (UTC)yes we do, "ate" (for older sisters/females) and "kuya" (older brothers/males). although it doesn't really on the gender of the speaker when they use a word (like in korea you have to be a girl to use the word "unnie" while the boy uses "noona", etc), it's just those two. and we have no word for dongsengs, although the maknae is "bunso" lol.
