The profits earned by SM artists like Girls' Generation, Super Junior, and TVXQ have been revealed. According to Financial Supervisory Service Data Analysis, Retrieval and Transfer System, SM Entertainment's March 6th prospectus listed their top five earning artists and further showed their sales relative to each other.

As expected, Girls' Generation made the highest contribution to SM Entertainment's sales figures. Super Junior came in second, with TVXQ, SHINee, and f(x) making up the rest of the top five.

Girls' Generation brought in a total of 21,737,000,000 won (approximately 19.3 million USD) by the third quarter of 2011 alone, with 7,995,000,000 won (7.1 million USD) due to album sales.

Super Junior on the other hand brought in a total of 13,831,000,000 won (12.3 million USD), with 6,560,000,000 won (5.8 million USD) attributed to album sales.

Following them were TVXQ with 11,723,000,000 won (10.4 million USD), SHINee with 5,495,000,000 won (4.9 million USD), and f(x) with 3,577,000,000 won (3.2 million USD).

While the above includes earnings from individual activities, SM Town and other performances and projects are excluded. This essentially means that their actual earnings are a lot higher than presented in the prospectus.

Is this for 2011 only? It's definitely no surprise that all of them are idol groups. I wonder if each of the members from each of the groups gets similar amounts of income, or if their income is proportional their sales performance as a group.

If included everything they do though, I wonder how Soshi, Suju, and DBSK's places would switch. DBSK has Japan. Suju has their Super Shows. Soshi's doing well in Japan, too.

Date: 2012-03-18 02:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] xists-09.livejournal.com
I don't think it would switch too much imo, because all 3 international activities are quite equal. Also I believe the percentage of profit they actually get from domestic is bigger than overseas, because in Japan Avex and UMJ got the bigger sum of profit I believe. As for Suju's Taiwan/China promotions I'm not too sure about that.

I'm quite surprised SNSD brought that much money for SME up to the 3rd quarter of 2011, that's before their The Boys comeback. But they do have quite a fair share of commercial deals, concerts DVD, photo book releases and such.

Hope the acts themselves got a fair share from it.

No wonder since SNSD's everywhere. They really should rest, though they're all relatively young (still my age), they still need their rest.

On the side note, Yunho should definitely buy SM stocks like BoA or LSM should just give Yunho the whole damn SMe for that epic of a fic Damaged to turn into reality

1. What is excluded besides SMTown? Would that mean sub groups are included or excluded? International activities?
2. It doesn't surprise me that SNSD is on the top of the list, especially If SMe charges the most for the girls to perform. (I remember that list/article on OMONA last year. Many were surprised how "cheap" it was to hire SJ and some other groups to perform compared to others), and by perform I think it also included, individual fees for a single member to appear in CFs/dramas.
3. I'm super surprised at f(x) since SMe kinda treats them as an after thought most of the time.
4. Question: if this is only for 2011, how many album releases did SNSD release? I know the Boys was in Oct/Nov. was there any more?

I will forever not understand SMe's lack of promotion of their non idol groups or f(x). They could hit the rock market with Trax.
