Barriers have been broken with the help of music. A North Korean orchestra has joined forces with the Radio France Philharmonic for a special performance in Paris.
Although communication was a problem, Radio France’s 1st violinist Svetlin Roussev is fluent in Russian and was able to talk with his North Korean counterpart.
“We are witnessing an historic moment that I hope will not be an isolated event because if it was that wouldn’t be very interesting. For now this is an experience lived through our hearts with the music expressing our sentiments, or emotions but this could be the first step towrads something that be immense,” said Roussev.
The concert was all the more remarkable for being the first time the North Koreans have played under a South Korean, the renowned conductor Chung Myung-Whun who is the French orchestra’s musical director.
