YG Entertainment was in the spotlight for being selective against certain TV shows or channels. It was revealed that YG artists were focusing on appearances on SBS channel only.

Regarding the criticism YG Entertainment has received, Yang Hyun Suk stated, “If stars schedule appearances as much as they are requested, they might be scheduled for way too many appearances. Not only do the stars get exhausted but their back dancers, stylist, manager and all the staff become exhausted. And it’s not like they can appear on each event looking the same way. They have to look unique and different for each appearance. Sometimes when stars appear on too many shows, they begin to look the same in each appearance, which is a problem.”

And “Instead of scheduling as many events possible, we decided to choose and focus on the shows that the artist will be appearing in. We’re trying to schedule about two appearances per week for the stars. For the stars to perform in their best condition, they need to maintain their strength but if they get overwhelmed, they won’t be able to show perfect performances. Even if I get criticized, it just has to be done this way for the artists.”

Even though Yang Hyun Suk is being criticized for being selective against certain shows, he explains that it is for the best. He will not overwhelm and exhaust the stars by over scheduling them. Instead, Yang Hyun Suk wants his stars to perform at their 100% to show their fans a perfect performance.

YG’s style of management is completely different from that of a newly debuted star. Most stars try to make most appearances as possible regardless of how their conditions are. Although Yang Hyun Suk is receiving criticism for his style, he is also receiving respect for wanting to show the artists’ 100% instead of tiring them out.

He also stated, “YG stars usually don’t attend award shows. If the stars attend all the award shows just to receive an award, they would have to attend an award show every day until at the end of the year to attend or perform at the award shows. It’s one of the things we differentiate against for the sake of the artists.”

Based on what I see on SME artists, when they look tired, they look very different with their show appearances. I don't get his point. I don't know but he should realize people will recognize his artists more if they see them frequently. It's like a rote method in learning; repeat until you learn. lol

Seeing idols exhausted, from any company really, just breaks my heart. So points to YG for this.

Common sense, really. It's hysterical that the new cable broadcasters added even more identical music shows. No one can possibly be interested in seeing the same performance five days in a row. Why not just replay last week's? Make it about your chart or whatever, have a few new ones and special stages. Gotta come crashing down. I'm happy we have weekly shows where LOTS of artists get to perform, that's better than most countries, but it's parodic overkill to have them do the same dance and sing every night.

Don't get me started. It's the exact same perf for weeks, no variety whatsoever either. I only watch one or two performances each week, I have no idea how people sit for an hour and a half watching the same thing every week. So much new music is released but no, let's have an idol group with a different costume sing the same song for the tenth time. The cable shows are overkill like mad.

I love this way of thinking.
It helps the artists and everyone involved in their appearance to stay on top of their game AND doesn't over expose them.
YG doesn't really have any NEW NEW bands right now so he just needs to keep a healthy steady flow of things. There's not need to overpower.
If I see an artist too much I start to get bored and annoyed and look for something else. Not to mention I get really tired of the song so it actually defeats the purpose.

Now only if he learned to multi task and have several label artist releasing things instead of just one artist a year...
That's a thing he should learn from Johnny's - how to have several artists that release things at the same time without competing against each other.

good point

"Now only if he learned to multi task and have several label artist releasing things instead of just one artist a year"

and it would be cool if they could support each other on their albums, another way to market so that an artist does not have to release all the time to stay relevant. Featuring an artist for a particular song is also a form of publicity but does not tire an artist out.

Lmao this article is so shady. "If we started comin on shows then all the shows would want us...also if you went to pick up awards we'd be at every show because we get nominated for everything. Stay pressed~"

Is what I got from that. Either way I love YG so this is hilar to me. Maybe they can use the extra time they have to hire new stylists.

I'd love to see YG artists appear on more shows but at the same time I don't want them to start fainting left and right from exhaustion like some groups and getting injured and looking tired. Quality over quantity is fine with me. Plus it helps not get sick of the artist seeing them everywhere.

reading this as "lol not bothering if they aren't paying us enough"

and doesn't YG own clubs and have his artists perform there regularly?

I'm really glad at least one company understands that artists who get 3 hours of sleep a night don't perform properly. Good for them for taking care of their artists.

He's lucky that his artists are popular enough now that they don't really need that variety/weekly music show promotion. But I wonder if he's going to take the same the route with his new groups (if they ever debut).

I think I mentioned this before the last time a similar post came out, but damn I think YG's strategy has more pros than cons....at least people actually get fucking excited when bigbang or 2ne1 have comebacks or make rare appearances on tv shows.

look at t-ara, they're all walking zombies with lack of sleep/rest from promoting year-round, and look at sj being on what seems like EVERY show all the time and STILL not being very popular in korea

I think that's how it's done in Japan, if we're going to make comparison. Each artists/groups will only be making 2-3 performances for a week only. And there's new performances by other artists next week and so on.
I used to like the intense frequency on Kpop performances, but after a short while I bored. Coz then I re-watch all the performnaces (from one group) and realize they have same/similar performances during those promotion weeks :3
