Bob Weinstein and SVP Matthew Signer acquired rights to the South Korean action thriller The Man From Nowhere this year and will supervise development of an English-language remake. Weinstein personally sought out Shawn Christensen after reading the spec draft of the writer’s Abduction, which Lionsgate bought last year after a bidding war. Directed by Lee Jeong-beom, the original Nowhere follows a quiet pawnshop keeper with a violent past who takes on a drug- and organ-trafficking ring to save the child who is his only friend. The film opened No. 1 at the Korean box office in August 2010 and held the top spot for five weeks in a row, becoming that year’s highest-grossing Korean film.

Christensen recently won the International Audience Award for Curfew, which he wrote, directed and starred in, at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival in France, one of the world’s most important short film events.

dnw. We don't need a terrible remake from the writer of Abduction; we don't need a remake at all.

The Korean movie is perfect. This doesn't need to have an American remake. Just watch the damn Korean one with English subtitles and suck it up -.-

Um, honestly, this movie is almost exactly the same as Leon (The Professional) - which was done much better in my opinion.

um what? imo, they were completely different. o_O besides the whole former-hitman/child schtick, which is common trope they weren't really similar at all. be it plotwise, cinematographywise, etc, etc.

The original is perfect already. A remake most definitely will flop in term of success and overall quality.

OH FUCK NO. How dare they even think of remaking it?

It won't be the same without Won Bin. He was the reason the movie even turned out the way it was.

I honestly don't think the Korean original was that good to begin with.. Won Bin and the cute kid saved that movie.
