The smooth charisma from K-Pop Star. The warm gaze watching the stage and even the insight in giving advice after listening attentively to the song. Singer BoA has transformed into a judge on SBS's audition program Good Sunday - Survival Audition K-Pop Star. One thought that she would lose her spirit in between YG's Yang Hyunsuk and JYP's Park Jinyoung, but quite the contrary. She has simultaneously captivated the contestants standing on stage and the viewers with precise analyses and tender emotions that are unique to her. As one expected, the experiences and wisdom of someone in her twelfth year since debut. And just how ever-changing is her image which caught on camera? She radiates elegance, intelligence, maturity, cuteness all in turn as she makes changes to her styling in each episode. Live broadcasts begin March 4th. The behind-story of K-Pop Star as told by BoA. Reporter Kwon Younghan

The top ten to advance into the live broadcasts have been decided on. Four contestants who received training from SM (Yoon Hyunsang, Park Jimin, Lee Michelle, Lee Jungmi), and three each from YG (Lee Seunghoon, Kim Nayoon, Baek Ahyeon) and JYP (Baek Jiwoong, Park Jaehyung, Lee Hayi). Either way, the midpoint results are SM's victory. You must be pleased.
Hahaha. Of course.

Out of the ten contestants who advanced to the live broadcasts, who do you personally think will advance to the top three?
I think pretty much everyone thinks that Park Jimin and Lee Hayi will. But I really don't know about that last remaining spot. Because I don't know what type of variables will come into play in the live broadcast performances.

In Lee Michelle's case, towards the beginning she was considered the top favorite, but since then she has declined.
But just like how Kim Nayoon made a return, I think that Lee Michelle could also suddenly appear with a surprise weapon. I think it is difficult to make any predictions because there are still about two months of the show to go.

Among the contestants who were unable to advance to the live broadcasts, who is the person who left the most regret?
For me, (Kim) Woosungie. His voice was extremely unique and he also sang while dancing. Truthfully, many female contestants advanced to the top ten. Many male contestants in particular didn't qualify so it’s regrettable. (laughter)

With no regards as to who wins, as you watched the auditions was there a contestant who you felt that you wanted to bring under your wing to develop?
I'm not sure. (Park) Jinyoung oppa and (Yang) Hyunsuk oppa are producers. But I'm just a singer under an agency who has come forth to represent her agency. So truthfully, the thought of wanting to develop someone hasn't readily occurred to me.

Did you watch Gag Concert? On the K-Pop Star parody corner "K-Jab* Star," comedian Lee Jonghoon imitated you so well that it became a hot topic. He copied the "That was so~ good. I love you" evaluation you gave after listening to Su Pearls.
Ah, I wasn't able to watch the show. I heard that talk of the President came up and that the level of the parody was quite high. They said that he just kept shouting "I love you." Either way I think it's a good thing that it became a hot topic. (laughter)

During the beginning of the auditions you received attention for your smooth charisma, but not too long ago you suddenly made sharp remarks to Kim Nayoon, Lee Michelle, and Diana Chen and brought out the energy of stern comments. You don't plan ahead thinking "Today I'll give out encouraging comments, and should I try out harsh criticisms tomorrow?"
Since I don't know how the contestants will perform and in what condition, of course I can't prepare evaluations or make predictions beforehand. In Kim Nayoon's instance, every time I saw her previously there were parts which were lacking but far from fixing those points, they were actually being accentuated so I made sharp remarks because I felt that it mustn't go on any longer. In Lee Michelle's case, during training I repeatedly told her "You have to take care of your throat, you have to" and she said "I will, I will," but then during the filming for the show she says she has vocal nodules and sings the song in a way that makes judging infeasible. Even though she received training at our company, from a judge's point of view there was no way I could give praise.

The intensity of your evaluations changed so drastically that the viewers, too, were surprised.
But that was not the only time I spoke in that fashion. There were previous instances when I made sharp comments but they were edited out. And these things are just frank observations, not malicious remarks.

It is a harmonious lineup but since the other two are the heads of YG and JYP and only you are at the level of director at SM, it must have been a point of concern initially when you were deciding on your appearance on the show.
At first it was really uncomfortable. Since those two are heads of their companies and producers, wouldn't it be difficult? But on the other hand, considering it from another point of view I thought "Because I also came representing my agency, there's no reason to be dispirited or intimidated." We began the judging process right on the first day of filming when we met, and each of our perspectives were very clear so it was a lot of fun.

During the show CEO Yang Hyunsuk jokingly sent you a love call to join YG.
Ahaha, yes. But he says that a lot on a normal, everyday basis as a joke. Then Se7en oppa can come to SM and I can go to YG and switch spots.

What are your plans for the future after K-Pop Star ends? If a casting request for I Am a Singer 2 were to come in would you have any interest in appearing? You have a connection in that Lee Sora sang "No.1" towards the beginning of the first season.
I'm not sure, honestly I haven't thought in that vein yet.

Music is a given, but I heard you have much greed towards acting as well.
I'm looking at scripts. Although there's nothing that makes me specifically feel "this is it" yet.

I heard that the Hollywood movie COBU, for which you took on the lead role, is being released around October this year. It is the project of Director Adler, who participated in the production of Step Up. How did the filming go?
It's been quite a while since preparations began. We began filming in January of 2011 and finished around July. And towards the end of last year we did some additional filming and it was early this year when all filming was actually finished. Currently it's being edited and I hope that it'll be released around fall.

As a singer you've climbed to the highest point but acting is a whole other world. How was it now that you've actually filmed your first movie?
It was really fun. Truthfully, when I was younger I wondered if acting was really necessary. But as I worked on the dance movie and actually came into contact with it I developed a lot of greed towards acting. I really felt the appeal of acting and I think of it as an area in which I want to steadily work through in the future.

Towards the end of last year your pianist older brother Kwon Soonhwon appeared on Star King and talked about your drinking habits. He said that you're the style to repeat yourself endlessly when you're drunk. Is this true?
After watching that episode I scolded my older brother. Saying "When did I ever do that, you did." (laughter)

*rude and rough, ill-mannered, used as a play on the show title

Hate the eyebrows in this shoot, but LOVE HER SO MUCH. I knew she hadn't been into acting in the past, so I was so happy to hear that she's looking towards doing more <3

I love both of them where they are but . . . I'd really love to hear this, too. Can you imagine Se7en doing something like Before U Go? And I feel like BoA hasn't been given really awesome songs in a while.

I might be in the minority here, but I loove the eyebrows. Gives a new look to the 5ever gawwwjus BoA. And at least, it's not as scathing as other eyebrow-enhanced shoots she's done in the past--euch, I hated those tbh.
