At first I couldn't make out anything but then I got used to her accent and understood about 80% or something. It wasn't good but it wasn't the worst I've heard either.
she puts the wrong emPHAsis on the wrong part of the word
so she ends up sounding like robot. in some parts you can definitely hear her korean accent too. i'm surprised, since i remember her speaking in japanese better than this.
in some places she is fine, but she isn't as good as those DSP artist, snsd, or even 2PM but she is cuter
i really hope japan likes her. i said this before this could go either way, japan could be sick of the hallyu wave and not buy or they will automatically love her. she has a sound and look that i know would be popular in japan
she's only had one extensive Japanese interview for NHK last month, and she spoke quite a bit in Japanese, though she also had a translator on hand to get through difficult words and more complex answers. EMI is putting her through a week full of tv and radio promotions soon, so if she felt uncomfortable before, she better adjust fast.
She's adorable, but it was hard to me to even tell she was singing in Japanese at first. I hope she can speak it enough for interviews even if it doesn't sound perfect because I don't want her to be another SNSD or basically every other kpop crossover artist ;___;

I don't think it's really that her Japanese is bad...I think it's just that the lyrics aren't a perfect fit and she's just emphasizing like, the RIGHT parts of the song/melody so.
This could swing pretty much both way, either Japan viewing it as another half-assed remake then IU's sales probably halving with each releases, or Japan could like IU and her sales soar like KARA.
I honestly have NO idea why people are judging her Japanese so hard... Yes, she has an accent [but let's say, 2PM's is much worse], she also struggles with 'fu' sound, but other than that it's fine, I can understand 99% of what she's singing, compared to maybe 60-70% of some of SNSD Japanese lyrics.
itchudemo, kaje, jutto(?) I don't remember the rest but honestly I got slightly bugged when I'm listening to this. I think her fu is okay though, probably because my japanese isn't that great either.
Kaje/jutto is a Korean thing, they don't have 'z' sound so when they try to pronounce it, it cames out as 'j', as in, gojaimasu instead of gozaimasu 8D So I wasn't counting this one, but you're right, it can be a little annoying to listen to. Anyways, I'm studying Chinese abroad now and believe me, NOTHING beats Thai people speaking Chinese when it comes to distorting all possible sounds, lol //cool story bro
