Fans who have liked Shinhwa since 1998 must be feeling that these are very different times. During the long period of 14 years, fan culture has changed as much as the world itself.
It seems like just yesterday when high speed internet was not yet readily available, and we had to connect to the fanclubs on PC communication networks via phone line dial-up without our parents knowing, and then having to worry more about the phone bill than our results. Now it only takes one click to see all the updates and photos of the members, and also interact with other fans.
Who could have imagined Flash images and animations? We just recorded shows on video tapes and repeatedly watched our favorite scenes. In place of the magazines and newspapers that occupied a corner of our rooms, we now have scans that can be saved and filed neatly, with no danger of being thrown out as wastepaper.
Times are changing, and so are the fans’ loyalties. But it’s the memories and sentiments from these 14 years that are most important. We’ve summarized those memories in one page. Let’s fill in the little gaps here and there together. Individual activities are not included. If we put those in too, we might as well publish ‘The History of Shinhwa’.
The boy groups that dominated the 90s together with them have disappeared, and they’ve survived disbandment rumors and military service. Before we knew it, the world now has kids younger than Shinhwa by 12 years who have debuted as idols. But well, is that important? The group still has 6 members, and they’re still Shinhwa. Like this, let’s walk towards the members’ 60th birthday banquets and dinner show then.
The chronicles of 6-member group Shinhwa who made their debut on 24 March 1998 (excluding individual activities). The events listed in the left panel charts the changes in media that influenced fans' activities and the changes in the boy group scene.
