Shinhwa's Comeback Concept Will Be Simple Yet Luxurious

Shinhwa is back. The 6 stylish guys. As veterans of the K-pop industry now, in what manner will they present themselves to stir the fans’ hearts? Although we’re curious about their title track, we’re also curious about what kind of dazzling stage costumes and style they will strut around the stage in.

“Shinhwa in the past used to be dressed in idol-style stage costumes, and now everyone knows of Shinhwa. Now they are the godfathers of the K-pop scene. So their overall concept will be a combination of simplicity and luxury.” Stylist Park Ji-young, who is overseeing the styling for Shinhwa’s comeback, explains Shinhwa’s overall simple yet luxurious concept.

She adds, “Shinhwa doesn’t need to be dressed in flamboyant stage costumes like other idols. Because the group Shinhwa itself, the members themselves are glamorous, so they don’t have to adopt a concept of bling-bling stage costumes.”

Ms Park, together with G.I.L Homme designer Seo Eun Gil, will be personally designing the costumes for Shinhwa’s comeback. She said, “The stylist usually picks the fabric and directly starts on production but there are limitations to that so I’m working with desinger Seo Eun Gil. I made my request to him and he was happy to agree.”

She expressed, “We’ll be trying out different treatments on the fabric, such as (color) gradation or dyeing, to create a unique style for Shinhwa to show off.”

Shinhwa will be making their comeback this coming March, in conjunction with their 14th anniversary. The group is making their official comeback after 4 years due to the members having to serve military duty. Shinhwa, whose members have set up Shinhwa Company and are preparing to meet their fans, will be holding their comeback concert ‘The Return’ at the Olympic Park Gymnastics Arena on 24/25 March.

When they mentioned dying, I thought more along the lines of gap's denim washed khakis... its basically like the colored jeans for women but with much more subtle colors. Like they had one was a green and black mix at christmas. It looked really cool (my frien dhas them ok). You could total do a t-shirt and blazer with it too to make it more sharp. So I hope its something like that.

I hope its nothing hideous. I also hope that the hair stylist is good too because I've seen some corn rows shit and I hate it. If the hair is bad, it kills EVERYTHING even if they have amazing outfits.

From what I can remember, they've only had cornrows or braids during concerts. Eric once said they did that because it was easier to maintain during long tours than hair that required daily styling.

I'm not sure if it's the translation or the language she used, but that's insulting saying they don't need "bling-bling" stage costumes because the members themselves are glamorous? Um yeah, none of them are spring chickens anymore...and the younger generation are attractive, equally and sometimes more talented. I get that they're basically the fathers of kpop, but that was rude on her part.

I don't really see how that can be viewed as a comment on the attraction or talent of newer idols. You're reading a little too much into it.

Let's be honest, crazy concepts/styles are one major way many idols create buzz for their comebacks. She's just saying that Shinhwa's comeback alone is enough of a splash/shock that they don't need a unique concept to generate buzz this time around.

Also, Shinhwa has had some of the craziest concepts and hairstyles in all of Kpop. But they're older now and that sort of stuff wouldn't suit them anymore anyways.

Yeah maybe you're right. I want to become fluent in Korean cuz my bf is always telling me the subs aren't accurate when we're watching some idol game shows etc so I always wonder if these interviews are translated well.

I agree though, fanciful costumes would look pretty silly considering their veteran status and age.

It was actually one of the earlier lines she said that helped me put her words into perspective, "Shinhwa in the past used to be dressed in idol-style stage costumes, and now everyone knows of Shinhwa". So basically those crazy concepts they had in the past did their job in making Shinhwa known so now it's time to move beyond that.

Yeah, the feeling of not totally understanding everything is one of the things I hate most about being an international fan. When I see translations by different translators that have totally different meanings, I wonder just how much I'm really missing :/
