There are claims that Block B's interview has been misrepresented.
Looking at the situation during the interview, this is a clarification of parts of Zico's comments regarding "monetary compensation" and "7,000 won".

A post from one netizen's own twitter explains that as the interview progressed the interpreter asked about donations which led Zico and Park Kyung to talk about the contributions they normally make.
During the interview, Zico told Kyung to, "Tell us about the donations you usually make." And Park Kyung answered, "Normally, every month I take 200,000 won from my account."
In continuation Park Kyung explained his own views on donating and said, "The money goes to kids in Africa.. yes. Because donating is helping, I think making donations is something indispensable in life."
The interpreter made mention of the Thailand floods once more, saying that "This (show) is for the benefit of the victims of those damages," explaining that proceeds from the show will be donated. (They may also be pertaining to half the amount of the salary of members who planned to donate theirs.)
Hereupon Zico said, "Ei of course we do, we know it. We think that everyone must have suffered greatly due to the floods, and we hope that this monetary compensation can help them recover. We have nothing but money..." and when asked for an estimate of how much he had replied, "About 7,000 won...?"

This shows that the the staff members present understood the comment as a joke.
The netizen which posted this said that if one looked at the details of the interview, "No matter how I look at it, 'monetary compensation' seems to pertain to the donations which will be collected through the show. Even the 7,000 won comment seems to purely be a joke (a joke that may be about how their overestimation of their contributions backfired (T/N: it turned against them because it doesn't correspond to the money they actually had presently))." The netizen added that, "It feels as if people have been severely misled."

Netizens were not knowledgeable about the particular details of this matter, however, the response is that for them things make much more sense after seeing the circumstances surrounding it.
There were even comments left about how their manners with regard to donating are inimitable.
It has been of interest whether the misunderstanding regarding Block B's "7,000 won" scandal would be straightened out.

INTERPRETER: Tomorrow's event will be, in a sense, a showcase for the sake of charity.
    ZICO: Charity?
    INTERPRETER: Charity, charity.
    ZICO: Ah a donation.
KYUNG: Oh really? Ah~ so I've been doing something good.
INTERPRETER: Yes... What do you think about that?
    KYUNG: It's great.
ZICO: Tell us about the donations you usually make.
KYUNG: Normally, every month I take 200,000 won from my account. (US$180)
    INTERPRETER: Where does it go?
KYUNG: To kids in Africa.. yes. Because donating is helping, I think making donations is something indispensable in life, and even when we succeed later on I'd like to donate half of all that I have.
INTERPRETER/OTHER MEMBERS: Half of all your fortune? You said that clearly. Oh~ Oh~
KYUNG: No no, half of my salary. For one month, one month.
ZICO: What~ If it's going to be half of what you receive in one month, then in 3 months at most _______ (T/N: Here the interpreter cuts to the next question and you cannot hear what Zico said which made Kyung laugh.)
INTERPRETER: Would you happen to know that there were floods in Thailand?
    ZICO: Yes, we know it..
KYUNG: Yes of course we know about it.
INTERPRETER: This is for the benefit of the victims of those damages.
    BLOCK B: Ah~
ZICO: Ei of course we do, we know it. We think that everyone must have suffered greatly due to the floods, and we hope that this monetary compensation can help them recover. We have nothing but money...
KYUNG: How much did you say you have this time?
    ZICO: Huh?
KYUNG: How much did you say you have this time?
ZICO: Me? 7,000... won... thereabouts? (US$6)
    *laughter*

How is it, isn't that odd?
The 'monetary compensation' that Zico said may refer to the donations which will be collected through the show.
It looks like the 7,000 won comment was purely a joke.
I think people have been severely misinformed about this issue. No matter how I look at it.
(T/N: This last paragraph shows the thoughts of the netizen who originally made the transcription of the video.)

Translator’s Notes:
This article does not serve to excuse how the boys behaved and the jokes they made, but it was translated and posted at the request of fans and to show the context in which they made the particular joke.

No matter if this was misleading Block B is in hot water again. So it starts to look worse for them by the minute. And fans need to stop complaining about people shouldn't dig up older interviews. If they just weren't douchebags/assholes in older interviews then people wouldn't even care.

It looks like the 7,000 won comment was purely a joke.

Didn't we already know this? Idk I just don't think it's cool to make ANY joke when speaking about that kind of tragedy.

Why can't fans just accept that their oppas did something insensitive? No need to write an essay that explains absolutely nothing.

I've yet to really see a BBC defend Block B in this situation. Most (if not all the ones I've come across) seem pretty disappointed and know the boys did something wrong, but are trying to point out that the interview was misconstrued to look worse than it was and there's no point for death threats.

Honestly I can't be bothered with all the interpretations/translations the fan groups are throwing back and forth so I won't talk about the content of the matter itself i.e. what the 7000 won thing was about. The only thing I feel was that the "joke" or laughter was too soon after such a serious matter. Anyway, the apology shows that they had some intention to make a joke, not necessarily out of the disaster, but it was a bit impolite to do so at the moment, pretty much timing.

I am more disappointed that as a rookie group, their manners were lacking I watched that part of the video and some members were learning forwards or not paying attention. They might want to be unconventional, but there is nothing special about not showing acts of respect? This is what I feel. I do not normally pay attention to Block B but this my opinion of it all.

I'm surprised the whole interview wasn't subbed sooner. I'm glad this sort of clears the air. I genuinely think the boys have suffered enough (I'm praying that the bashing/threats to Zico's mom aren't true :\) and are truly sorry tbh. I just hope those hurt by their comments (especially Thais) will find it in them to forgive the group since they didn't have malicious intentions in saying what they did. A few of them have said and done many stupid things so I hope this was a wake up call for them.

While I hope they try to restrain themselves in the future, I don't want them to lose their dorkiness. They were so much fun to watch on Match Up. It's possible to be entertaining and hilarious without being complete morons, Block B! I have faith in you!

Everyone knew it was a joke; we just didn't think it was an appropriate one to make, and the fact is that Block B (well... Kyung) now have a history of joking about national tragedies that have befallen other countries (see: the joke about the typhoon in Japan Kyung made). Heck, it wasn't even just about the joke; it was about the general body language they used during the interview, fidgeting and shuffling and not paying attention the interview to chatter amongst themselves instead. It was rude. I don't doubt that everyone (possibly minus Kyung, who doesn't really seem apologetic at all to me) in the group is genuinely sorry and understands that their behaviour wasn't appropriate, but nobody's obligated to accept their apology. Forgiveness is a thing given, not a thing you're owed.

To be honest the BBCs screaming and whining that Block B have some sort of entitlement to everyone's forgiveness and good will are making this much worse for Block B than the guys themselves, and it's pretty disrespectful not just to the offended parties but to Block B themselves. If I were Zico I'd feel really embarrassed by my own fans right now. Kind of a "get off my side, you're making my side look stupid" situation.

all i know is they have sincerely apologized and their agency should've handled the situation better

and i don't think Khun was the first one to spread the article.. he tweeted his concern after reading the news article which netizens have also read
haters aka cray netizens are using this opportunity to bring both Block B and Khun down and they need to stop :(

This was translated Feb 21st and posted here after a few days. It was only translated because there were several people requesting for it and the brothers of two members RTed this news link, causing people to be curious regarding the details of the news article. We clearly stated that it does not excuse anything, including their misbehavior and only gives people a clearer view of the things that led to the improper joke.

Now can we please drop this? They said sorry now lets watch and see if they learned anything this time. And also BBC's need to quit harassing Khun.

This is just adding more fuel to the fire that was about to die.

Everyone knew it was a joke, a joke that was out of place and time, a joke that was uncalled for. Along with their rude and insensitive behavior.

No one is hating out of spite, just legit annoyed by their behavior. No need to try to clarify when those boys already apologized, they obviously know that they were in the wrong too since they apologized. This really brought out all kinds of side-eye worthy statements from fans tbqh, I hope to never see an article or anything to clarify this again. It was awefully timed and not really something to be joking about. That's that.

Date: 2012-02-23 12:42 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jaerotic.livejournal.com
The thing is not everyone knew that they were joking about the poorness of Zico. And this is KPOP, of course there are people hating out of spite. This was the reason why this article was released in Korea, because the petition for them to disband has reached 8,000 signatures and there are petitions for them to commit suicide and Zico's mom had to close down a cyworld account which has been there for more than 7 years because antifans were harassing even her.

There was a video of the interview using these subs and there were quite a lot of people who said that the translations were wrong and that the video was fake. That means there were people who do not know what exactly was being said. And that's why this longer version was released. This article was translated on the 21st of Feb and was posted here late. The fire was still very much burning then.

We know they were wrong, and insensitive, and we were already very much disappointed in them even before Khun tweeted about it. This article does not excuse them, but there were people who asked for context, and we could not ignore their requests when we had the original article right with us. We also included in the notes that it does not include their behavior. This only addressed misconceptions about the joke that people may have had.

We hope you can forgive us for letting our fellow fans know just what really happened at their own request, even if it does not change the fact that the joke should have never been set up during that particular question in the first place.
