With his discharge only 3 days away, actor Lee Junki has been surrounded with controversy about his supposed commercial activities while serving in the military.

It has been revealed that on February 10th in Seoul, Lee Junki recorded a single track, which was meant to be purchased by fans at his upcoming fanmeeting in Japan in March. Agency representative Son Ilhyeong said in an interview that they “planned to announce the single at the Japanese fanmeet.”

Another official also commented, saying, “Pursuing commercial activity while performing military duties, even on vacation time, is a serious moral and legal problem,” and added, “Furthermore, he is dedicated to representing the image of the Armed Forces, and would not act irresponsibly while acting as a part of the Armed Forces Public Relations unit.”

In a press release last month, Lee Junki’s agency stated, “Tickets for Lee Junki’s commemorative fan meeting will be released simultaneous to his discharge on the 16th.” It has been noted that the tickets, priced at ₩30,000 each, were sold in Lee Junki’s name, which seems to be a clear indicator of commercial activity taking place during his military service.

Officials from the Ministry of Defense stated that they will “examine whether the acts were illegal or not” by determining whether the agency used Lee Junki’s name to sell tickets, or if Lee Junki took part as well.

Previously, Lee Junki has come under investigation due to his application for a deferral of military service due to entertainment activities.

Why is the deferral even mentioned, he's days away from getting out. LOL
Moving too fast slow down, money hungry agency.

I'm more in shock that its been 2 years already. Glad JunKi is coming back, though I hope he didn't do anything illegal.

I can't believe it's already been 2 years since he left for the military -- time does fly away very quickly.

BTW, it's hard to believe he didn't know that it is against the law to do commercial activities while serving. Aren't his agency supposed to know this? I hope its nothing serious since it will be a shame to return with this kind of controversy.

I hope to see him in dramas soon, preferably story that can show his awesome fighting skills. :)

His agency should be held accountable, nothing to do with him.

I wonder if it constitutes 'pursuing commercial activities' if it doesn't become commercial (that is, get sold) until he's released?

(why is the deferral stuff news though? It was two years ago, and most/many entertainers defer for some period of time. Oh wait, is this one of those "we're going to mention basically irrelevant stuff to make X sound shadier and generate controversy things?)
