Totally OT but calling someone from Germany to translate this article: http://www.berliner-zeitung.de/berlin/b-e-a-s-t---schoen-frisiert-und-wohlerzogen,10809148,11610354,item,0.html It's about Beast.
The first paragraph is a short introduction into Hallyu, the second one is about a German Kpop fan from Berlin, and how she is active in several Korean/Kpop related things. BEAST isn't really mentioned much.
Boy group B.E.A.S.T is going to perform at the Columbiahalle this Sunday. It's going to be a feast day for Berlin's Koreans – and not only for them.
South Korea's export hit was cars and electronics until now. Korean music, short “K-Pop”, is getting in line with that. The so called “Korean Wave” first captured Asia and is now also reaching India, the Middle East, North Africa, North- and South America and Europe. The Music is a mix of traditional Asian sounds and Western pop music, the bands sing in Korean, Japanese, Mandarin and English. The songs are mostly about family, love and moral. “Even the bad boys of the scene are innocent and well-behaved”, says Esther Klung.
Benchmark of the Berlin scene
The Berliner had been a K-Pop fan for four years. “I came across the bands on Youtube, I was hooked and made internet fan pages with a friend”, says Esther Klung.
Pivot point of the K-Pop scene in Berlin
By now she's somewhat the fulcrum of the K-Pop scene in Berlin, which she estimated has around 150 active members. That's not a small number considering there are 3000 registered South Koreans in Berlin, and the number of fans is growing steadily, according to Klung. The 31-year old is fascinated by the Korean culture. She's working voluntary in the culture centre of the Korean embassy, planning, organising and moderating fan club meetings. Furthermore, she is operating the online magazine www.k-magazin.com, in which she reports about culture, music, film and literature. Last August she organised the first German K-Pop-Night and in November she organised a K-Pop-Contest, both at the culture centre at the Leipziger Platz. “The 23-year old contest winner was from Trier and was invited to Korea as a background dancer and performed there at the K-Pop World Festival”, says Esther Klung.
By now Klung is also pulling strings outside of Germany. With a friend from Switzerland she opened the K-Pop forum www.so-loved.net, where they hosted the “So Loved Awards” a year ago: The most popular K-Pop bands were to be determined by an internet vote. “We had 500000 visitors on our site in a month, 75000 voted.”
2NE1, SNSD, JYJ or B.E.A.S.T. were named – over here little known names. This Sunday B.E.A.S.T. (“Boys of East Standing Tall”), six boys between 18 and 20, are going to perform at the Columbiahalle. An opportunity to trace, what the K-Pop hype is about. The first 600 tickets were gone in a few hours. Not bad, considering the prices of around 60 Euro. There are still remaining tickets at the box office.
B.E.A.S.T. is looking impeccable, they have elaborate hairstyles, wear flashing earrings, glamorous outfits and all seem a little bit like Bill Kaulitz from Tokio Hotel. Their music consists of techno sounds, R'n'B and rap elements as well as expertly done dance numbers. This is the “Hallyu-Wave” we're talking about. Their videos were clicked on 60 mio times. Their debut album came out in 2009, since then they are the favourites of the Asian fashion and advertising industry: Their CDs were honoured with awards, the singers appeared on TV soaps. World wide Korean or Korean born teenagers are using them as an example after which they style themselves or they are belting out the songs in karaoke bars. In Berlin the demand after dance groups, in which one can emulate one's role models, is rising.
The beauties and the beast
Beast is going to present their 3rd album at their first concert in Germany. Expected are fans from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France. It was the same when the group JYJ performed at the Tempodrom in November. “Then there were not only Asians but also a lot of Europeans”, says Klung.
The fans of B.E.A.S.T. are calling themselves B2uties, spoken: Beauties, after the pun craze of their idols. So it's the beauties and the beast. K-Pop fans are mostly very young and very well organised. The meetings in Hamburg, Stuttgart and Berlin were organised via Facebook. Last summer there were flash mobs with dancing girls at the Potsdamer Platz, Alexanderplatz and at the Brandenburger Tor. The wave is supported by the Korean government, who wants to make the domestic culture a global brand. For that purpose, a special division for the pop culture industry was founded. Musicians are already discovered at a young age through talent competitions and are systematically trained. Not only are they taught singing and dancing skills but also how to appear confident abroad and language skills.
Esther Klung is also learning a foreign language right now, of course Korean.

This was done very quickly, so sometimes it might sound a bit weird and I apologize for any mistakes. :)
OMFG, i KNEW that was jieun! what the heck is she doing competing on the voice?? and why does her voice sound so different compared to when she was doing songs with taebin and lady collection? AND WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TURN FOR HER? is there going to be a redemption round like in the american version where they can go back and give ppl a second shot to get the right number of ppl on their teams, or no? omg so many questions i have about jieun :(
Amused by the opening "... of KoreA~~" lmao Only watched the first video as of now and he was awesome. Loved all of the coaches' reactions after they saw him lol. Ok now to get on with the rest :D
i just keep replaying cinderella, it's so awesome ;o; (also lol at kangta, he looked like the omg cat when he turned around) i really liked woo hyemi too. i'm already so hooked on this show, omg
The first singer was so awesome! I get so excited whenever someone presses that button and the chair turns around. I am addicted to the US version of this show, and now I'm going to become addicted to the Korean version too. XD
why doesn't kangta age? he looks much younger than some of the guys in kpop now.
and lol at the reactions of some of the judges in the first video when they saw that it was a guy singing.
and it must be really tough being a judge here. i would've turned around for most of these people. and i wouldn't take a long time to turn around, too. i'd really like to know what these judges are looking (listening?) for.
idk, i know on the us version of the show they only do full length segments of only a couple of people who didn't make it through and put all the other people who didn't make it into a really fast mash-up that takes something like 3 minutes, not sure if that happened here and just wasn't included.
Does anyone else get the impression that the Korean judges are more strict than the American ones? Granted I've only seen one episode of the American one right after the Superbowl, but in that one I got the impression that the four judges were almost in a competition to get the most. Or at least Christina was trying to get everyone. Here...the female judge hardly picked anyone at all! (She looked like she was in pain a lot of the time...I couldn't tell if it was because she thought it was really good or she thought it was really bad.) XD
Oh and I feel like the singers on here are all really talented, whereas they had a couple people that were really not all that good, but they had a sickeningly sweet story behind their audition. I loved the first guy. And Kangta's expression when he turned around! HAHAHA
I got that weird impression about Ji Young as well. I thought she was thinking she would not be able to compete with the other coaches come pitch time.
She ended up with just 1 artist in her team after the first episode.
I'm surprised people are wondering why the lady in the last vid didn't get picked by anyone, her audition wasn't good... and if you compare it to the other auditions it was lacking a lot.

Nice to know they haven't abandoned the frankly annoying habit of having judges look like they struggle so hard with NOT pressing their button.
