SPICA dreams of being the next Fin.K.L
Everybody has a dream but few realize that dream. Many give up on their dream just as they get close, for many reasons - but most often, they're simply forced have to compromise with reality.
That's how the members of rookie girl group Spica (Park Na Rae, Kim Bo Ah, Park Ju Hyun and Kim Bo Hyung, Yang Ji Won) used to be.
Park Ju Hyun scrapped her dream and became an office worker while Yang Ji Won, a former member of Five Girls, wandered for years after her girl group disbanded before it could even debut.
But in 2012, the members came together under the name of Spica, which indicates a first-magnitude star of Virgo, and represents their wish to become the brightest stars in the music scene.
As they say, "Well begun is half done" - the group was lucky to have top star Lee Hyori star in its music video for its debut single, Doggedly, which was released on January 10.
Thanks to Lee Hyori's support, Spica drew attention before even commencing full-fledged activities. On February 8, the group released its first mini-album, Russian Roulette.
"I conceived my dream of becoming a singer when I saw Lee Hyori's Fin.K.L. Then my idol, Lee Hyori starred in our music video. It was incredible and I felt awed. And then I thought to myself. I'll lead Spica to become great singers like Lee Hyori who has a passion for helping up-and-comers in the industry", said Park Ju Hyun.
To Park Ju Hyun's remarks, other members agreed in unison. More than anything else, they highlighted they would become like the Fin.K.L members who worked together and then continued to work actively individually and successfully in the industry.
"Fin.K.L is a group that marked a new era in the music industry in the 1990s, and now each member has moved on to a field that fits them and is greatly prominent. They have made their way up once again. I hope we will succeed under the name of Spica and every member can be loved by the masses. I hope Spica can be a group like Fin.K.L", Yang Ji Won said.
Nevertheless, Spica has said it is not an idol group. What do they mean?
First of all, all five members of Spica have vocal power. And the members are in their early and mid 20s unlike other idol group members who are in their late teens or early 20s. They spent a long time training themselves to realize their dreams even though they've experienced ups and downs.
"People are bound to come back to what they want. Many are wondering because becoming a singer is so hard but they surely return someday to be happy" Park Na Rae said.
"It was when I was 24 years old. After having lunch, I sat to begin my work at workplace and then all of sudden I came to wonder, 'What am I doing?' I had to make money to make a living but I couldn't give up on my dream", Park Ju Hyun said.
Yang Ji Won, who became a hot topic due to her previous experience with Five Girls, said, "I took a roundabout way and after all, I'm standing at the starting point again."
After Five Girls disbanded, she said, she wandered for a long time, doubting that becoming a singer was the right choice for her.
When she saw her former teammates, G.NA, UEE, Yubin, and Jeon Hyosung realize their dreams, she felt happy but at the same time felt sad about being left alone.
"It's true that I feel pressure about being left alone among the former members, but I came to be positive and have belief after I met the nice members of Spica. Since I've been training and pursuing my dream for two years with the current members, my burdens have naturally disappeared. Now I'll work with confidence."
Those who pursue their dreams are beautiful. The challenge of five beautiful stars commences in 2012.
SPICA, "We want to be a group that does well in all genres"
The five stars shining brightly... "Lee Hyori's kids" SPICA
To be revealed on the 8th, Russian Roulette is the first album of the five-member girl group SPICA (Park JuHyeon, Kim BoA, Yang JiWon, Park NaRae, Kim BoHyeong) of which debut has been a hot topic for debates.
The first girl group from Lee HyoRi's agency disbanded on the early 2007. Yang JiWon was one of the original members of Five Girls. Their first single from January 10th, Potently was received well as reflected on its charts' rankings and has been anticipating a successful debut.
They may have been receiving attention as a rookie group but in fact they went through a hard and tough process before they can debut. First of all, the group's average age is 24. Nobody's really a rookie amongst them. They took about 6.2 years of training before this opportunity to debut has come to them. At this point, their effort, sweat, and tears have paid-off.
All the members have gone through the same in the past. We couldn't even ask about it, we could tell by their eyes, it has been an understanding through their hearts.
● The girl group viewed as smart and womanly
In recent Sports Donga writes-ups, SPICA shared some of their stories in tears. But now they are filled with energy and vitality. "(Being rookies) because the members are older and went through a lot of hardships, we are called 'woman group'. From when SPICA was formed it was destiny. In our minds, we are SPICA who's many wanted to meet and have been waiting for."
Ranging from 4 to 10 years of training, the members know their own uniqueness and personality.
Despite the "No need for words, we talk through our hearts", they adjusted to each other's personality absorbed, each other's individuality and advantages without conflict, they plan to show their confidence through their synergy.
"So far, we think there's no group similar to us. We are a group that can handle different genres. We don't really have a concept since the beginning. We don't know what color we will be showing you in the future. We want to be a group that do well in all genres."
SPICA's first album contains 6 different genres. Their title song Russian Roulette is produced by Sweetune, and track 5 is written by maknae Kim BoHyeong.
There were many who liked Potently, Lee HyoRi unni acknowledges it as a good start. Also, it doesn't matter how long we've been training, we'll do our best as rookies."
The group's name is SPICA which means the brightest star of the Virgo constellation aims to be the brightest star of the entertainment industry. "Goal of every rookie is the Rookie Award. Even though we won't win it, just meeting like this, we're already happy. We want the same dream even as we get older without abandoning anyone. Until the end, we want to do well without giving up our dream and to inspire those who want to challenge the same dream. That's the reason why we should do well."

Their mini album is out on 8th February!!! Hope they make it daebak!!!^^".
Under B2M Entertainment, the 5-member group SPICA first released the music video for Potently which features senior labelmate Lee Hyori. However, the group has never promoted the track. Date: 2012-02-12 12:07 am (UTC)Well, maybe "banning" is too much but those lyrics deserve to be criticized.
Knowing the lyrics ruined the song for me :/

Date: 2012-02-12 12:41 am (UTC)I love the girls' voices but those lyrics really disturb me...
"If you leave like this, I will...
Hey baby, I'll count to three and pull - bang bang bang"
"If it's not you, I will die anyway"
"I need to hold onto you even if it's like this
With your hand, oh, aim - bang bang bang bang bang"
"If it doesn't work, it's over
I have nothing more to lose
I can do things that are more extreme than this"
"Please hold onto me, finish me"
It's basically a song saying that the guy might as well kill her if he tries to leave her and she'll even shoot herself over losing him.

Date: 2012-02-12 12:56 am (UTC)I think it bothers me a little more with this group since (as the articles above point out) they're marketing themselves as a smart "woman" group. Sorry but this song isn't the message I associate with smart and mature women. But that's just me...
