Twenty-two year old Olympic Gold Medalist Kim Yuna is being slanderously criticized on the Internet. A man by the name of Douglas Kim, a person associated with Yuna’s former management company, IB SPORTS, made comments on his Twitter with the aim of attacking the sport star’s recent commercial activities.

Last Sunday he posted, "Yuna, who used to only drink milk, is drinking coffee. It seems like she intends to quit sports and just be a celebrity."

Kim Yuna’s latest endorsement is for a product from Maxim, filming a CF for a white gold coffee called "Yuna Coffee." Netizens who read Douglas Kim’s tweets responded favorably to the Olympic star and called Douglas Kim out on his unfounded attacks.

Netizens commented, "This is just an undisguised attack," “This is twisting the events way too much," "Is this revenge for some kind of bad judgment?"

Douglas Kim appeared to apologize after the news of these attacks spread and he removed the related tweets, "It seems like there has been a misunderstanding about my tweet, I never intended to slander Kim Yuna. I apologize."

Kim Yuna and her former agency, IB SPORTS, were in the midst of a legal battle until just recently. In the lawsuit that Kim Yuna filed against IB SPORTS, she demanded her unpaid wages of 9 million won ($8,064 USD). The court ruled in favor of Kim Yuna, and ordered IB SPORTS to pay the gold medalist 8 million won ($7,168 USD).

So someone tweeted about Kim Yuna doing too many cf's, so what? Jesus people need to get thicker skin. Even if the guys got some personal agenda, last I remember people were allowed to have opinions...

And so he's a netizen just like them. I just don't understand why it's a big deal I guess.

That's not even an opinion though, why make up shit about how she "intends to quit sports" just because she's drinking coffee? If you're gonna say dumb shit like that be ready to get called out.

Er he obviously wasn't saying she's quitting sport, just that she was doing alot of CF's. She's obviously a brand ambassador and it's her right to do what she wants but it's just a measly opinion of one guy, is it really worth recognition to the point it's news worthy? Seems absurd.

I don't really care about what he said or intended or whatever but lemme just point out that just because you've done worse on twitter, it doesn't automatically justify it.
We're all entitled to our opinions but some aren't really worth it.

My point isn't about his opinion, it's just that are people really so over sensitive that one negative tweet propped up articles about Yuna being "slanderously" criticised on the internet. Am I the only one who finds the reactions abit over the top?

Fair enough but when were netizen reactions never over the top?
I'm just glad that it's to the denfense of a star for once.

What? Where do you see "a lot of CFs"? She made one CF and he's calling her out on it, saying that because she did it she probably intends to stop playing sports. What part of that did you not understand on his tweet? Yeah well there are more absurd Korean news out there, idk how long you've been a Kpop fan but in Korea you can make headlines for the stupidest things even if you're just a netizen. It's not unusual.

Okay example:

I tweet that "Federer must be thinking of quitting sports because all I see is him doing Gilette and Lindt ads"

And people say that I'm slandering his name and spreading false info that he's quitting Tennis.

Yeah, so? You're doing the same thing by insinuating that it looks like he's gonna quit doing tennis. I'm not saying you can't have opinions, I'm just saying it's not unusual that netizens will get angry and jump at you for that. Netizens are sensitive ofc it's to be expected. plus tbh that was a stupid tweet/observation even if it is his opinion.

Most likely the company was probably trying to stiff her with bills and she didn't like it. Obviously it's abit crazy to sue them over 8k but if they were taking her pay then she should fight them and teach them a lesson.

Even if she did intend to quit and just be a celebrity, there's nothing wrong with that. It's actually kind of smart to start looking into it now, seeing as in a couple years she'll have to retire from ice skating professionally anyway... god ice skater's careers are so short. So it's smart for her to be putting herself out there now while she still has all the popularity.

tbh he is speaking the truth, idt she enjoys skating anymore, it's more an obligation for her now at this point. reading her srs bsns interviews are kind of painful and sad, she should just retire if it makes her happy.

I don't get why people are comparing their own tweets with his, since he might even have worked with Kim Yuna.

At the same time, it's none of his business what she intends to do with her life. It's her choice if she wants to become a celebrity and heck, she definitely has the potential and talents. Also, many athletes do commercials and endorsements--that guy who tweeted needs to get over it.

I think Yuna enjoys ice skating, but it's clear she also enjoys singing and being a celebrity, etc. or else she wouldn't have done performances of Taeyeon's songs imo. Which, like someone mentioned, is smart. How many more times will she be able to participate in the Olympics--not that many, so it doesn't hurt if she's in demand for cfs and stuff and exploits those opportunities to her advantage right now.
