Twenty-two year old Olympic Gold Medalist Kim Yuna is being slanderously criticized on the Internet. A man by the name of Douglas Kim, a person associated with Yuna’s former management company, IB SPORTS, made comments on his Twitter with the aim of attacking the sport star’s recent commercial activities.
Last Sunday he posted, "Yuna, who used to only drink milk, is drinking coffee. It seems like she intends to quit sports and just be a celebrity."
Kim Yuna’s latest endorsement is for a product from Maxim, filming a CF for a white gold coffee called "Yuna Coffee." Netizens who read Douglas Kim’s tweets responded favorably to the Olympic star and called Douglas Kim out on his unfounded attacks.
Netizens commented, "This is just an undisguised attack," “This is twisting the events way too much," "Is this revenge for some kind of bad judgment?"
Douglas Kim appeared to apologize after the news of these attacks spread and he removed the related tweets, "It seems like there has been a misunderstanding about my tweet, I never intended to slander Kim Yuna. I apologize."
Kim Yuna and her former agency, IB SPORTS, were in the midst of a legal battle until just recently. In the lawsuit that Kim Yuna filed against IB SPORTS, she demanded her unpaid wages of 9 million won ($8,064 USD). The court ruled in favor of Kim Yuna, and ordered IB SPORTS to pay the gold medalist 8 million won ($7,168 USD).

Date: 2012-02-09 05:16 am (UTC)I don't get why people are comparing their own tweets with his, since he might even have worked with Kim Yuna.
At the same time, it's none of his business what she intends to do with her life. It's her choice if she wants to become a celebrity and heck, she definitely has the potential and talents. Also, many athletes do commercials and endorsements--that guy who tweeted needs to get over it.
I think Yuna enjoys ice skating, but it's clear she also enjoys singing and being a celebrity, etc. or else she wouldn't have done performances of Taeyeon's songs imo. Which, like someone mentioned, is smart. How many more times will she be able to participate in the Olympics--not that many, so it doesn't hurt if she's in demand for cfs and stuff and exploits those opportunities to her advantage right now.
