JYP is just as hard to please.”

YG artist, Se7en, has held hands with JYP for his recent comeback. The result? Sizzling. His new song, “When I Can’t Sing,” has debuted in first place in various music charts. Seoul Newspaper asked Se7en, seven questions.

Q1. How did you come to work with JYP?

A: I really liked it (the song)!

Since long ago, (ParkJin Young hyung and I am very close, so as a joke we always said, “lets work together.” A while ago, I had a chance to see him again with Yang (Hyun Suk) CEO and (Park Jin Young) played this song for us to listen. After hearing that it has been made a year ago, I thought, “I really like it and want to sing this song.” After choosing the title song, I started working on my album.

Q2. What is the difference between YG and JYP?

A: YG is more about skill and feel and JYP is about being genuine.

YG tends to look at the "feel" of a person. He puts importance on hidden skills, talents and the feel of a person. On the other hand, JYP puts more importance on being genuine and honest. It appears that he hates phoniness. Even while recording, “When I Can’t Sing” he kept repeating, “I don’t care if you don’t sing it well, I just want you to sing it sincerely.”

Q3. Recently many of your juniors are entering the American market. Does it make you want to go back to America and give it another chance?

A: Not really…

Of course, if I were given a good opportunity, I would go. But currently, I don’t feel too big on giving it another chance. At this time, I need to work on the domestic market and I want to invest a couple of years here so I don’t think I can go (to America). Even though my American debut wasn’t successful, personally it was a very important period for me. How many domestic singers can say they were given the chance to work in America? It was a great and fortunate period in life for me.

Q4. How do you feel about Girls Generation debut in America?

A: Being able to go on “The Late Show With David Letterman” was truly great!

I was really surprised. Being able to go on “The Late Show With David Letterman” is an accomplishment in itself. Girls Generation were great, but I think the popularity of K-POP is astonishing too. It is more than I imagined. (Laughing) I don’t think the articles (in Korea) truly understood the greatness in being able to appear as a guest on “The Late Show With David Letterman.” They (the articles) came out like it wasn’t a big deal.

Q5. If there were audition programs around the time you debuted, do you think you would have taken part in one (as a contestant)?

A: I don’t think I would have given them much thought…

I don’t think I would have tried out. When I was younger, I wasn’t interested in many things. I am not the type to go out looking for things. And I also don’t like to go out to places with a lot of people. But I really enjoy watching SBS “KPOP Star.” Lee HayiPark Ji Min, and Lee Michelle have caught my attention. I feel like they sing better than some of the singers who have already debuted.

Q6. It has already become 10 years since your debut. What do you think Se7en will be doing 10 years from now?

A: Still dancing and singing!

I think I will still be singing. At that age, I may not be able to dance as well but I will definitely be a better singer. Just like my seniors Jo Yong Pil and InSooni. Of course I still want to dance even as I get older. I was jealous of Michael Jackson who was able to continue on with his unchanging stage performance well into his forties. If I could be like that, I would not be happier.

Q7. Do you have any marriage plans with the person you’ve dated for so long?

A: Nope… No comment!

Currently, I have no plans on getting married. Anything more is no comment. (Laughter)

i kinda wish they didn't ask him about girls generation. they could've asked about his latest album more. or about the music video. that mv said so much about him and is idol life.

It was interesting to read about how he came to sing a JYP song and how he compared his working style and YG's

I dunno what Se7en is talking about. If it would have been on day time television or prime time = bigger deal.

I'm not saying that it's not awesome that they got to go on Letterman but it's like the wrong segment. They should have gone on Conan or someone with younger viewers.
