INFINITE directs their own campaign videos against animal abandonment

Idol group INFINITE has produced several PSA videos to help advocate against animal abandonment.

The idea was inspired by INFINITE’s dog, Tofu, who became a temporary family member along with two other Jindo puppies for KBS’s variety show, ‘Birth of a Family’.

Since INFINITE can’t keep the puppies, they’ve been made available for adoption through the show. Out of the three, Tofu has yet to find a home; he will have to return to the animal shelter if no one claims him by the end. The boys learned that Tofu’s case is similar to that of the 100,000+ dogs who get abandoned every year.

Disturbed by this issue, the members decided to launch a campaign against animal abandonment. The boys ran the entire production, from PR to filming and acting.

In the videos, the members tried to convey the betrayal felt by a dog when their owner abandons them. “We were happy… Were you…. Were you so good to me so that you could do this? Did you not love me?”, they asked.

Each PSA ends with the message, “If they could speak, would you still throw them away?”

But that was the point of the show...to raise awareness about abandoned dogs and to find homes for the particular dogs Infinite and A Pink were taking care of.

Actually what they did was no different from what a lot of shelters do: it's called fostering and it's basically temporary adoption to help adjust or rehabilitate young animals so that they can be permanently adopted. In most cases the animals DO go back to the shelter afterwards, but because they've been fostered they're easier to adopt because people are more inclined to take a "trained" animal than one who's been untrained.

And it would have been impossible to find them homes beforehand because they had no idea how those puppies would have turned out behaviour-wise.

I helped a Shelter in my town to throw a campaign and my boyfriend and I were foster owners for a few dogs and puppies.

Usually is people's feelings that get in the way of thinking 'oh my god it must be so traumatizing to get the dogs to change owners like that!', but in reality dogs easily adjust to new, healthy environments after their rehab. It takes about a year for a dog to develop a deep bond with an owner, that's why shelters won't allow foster owners to keep dogs over 5 months.

And like someone mentioned, shelters do this because when a dog is rehab and trained the chance to get adopted is higher.

I hope they did a thorough background search on the adopting family. I hope no one adopted the dogs just because infinite took care of them only to abandon them later. I may be thinking too much but I'm really sensitive when it comes to animals :'{

That's what I worry about too, but I think the shelter is overseeing the adoptions, so they should hopefully be more stringent with the selection process.

Oh god my heart hurt so much when I read the caption at the end of the video. My cousin adopted a dog that was abandoned and every time they leave the house, she makes the most heartbreaking noises ;o;

Also, someone needs to tell Myungsoo to stop listing acting as his special talent because he can't act all that well tbh.

Video's relating to animal always turn me into a blubbering mess of tears and snot and intense emotion. This video of a dog staying by the side of its murdered owner in Brazil seriously made my wail out loud.

That said, as far as acting goes I almost teared up watching Sungyeol's version. By the I got to L, it almost turned into tears of laughter. I literally LOL-ed.

I'm both looking forward and dreading the other members versions (I hope there are other members versions though). If Dongwoo does well--as I expect him too--it will prove to the world once and for all that Dongwoo is indeed made from 150 percent flaw-free perfection and 100000 percent utterly dripping talent.

slightly OT: there's a dog down in the village near my workplace that I dubbed 'Tofu'. Absolutely adorable little guy ㅠㅠ but the lunch ladies keep feeding him scraps, so he's gotten rather fat.
I would love to steal him and take him home.

I wish I could take care of an animal, but I'm almost never home :( poor thing would be too lonely.

I'm pretty sure they were committed to looking for someone to adopt Dubu because if they just returned her to the center as planned, they wouldn't have extended filming. They were probably just saying that to add more pressure to the audience or to sway people who are just thinking about it to finally make a decision.

The show is working with a real animal shelter/animal rights group so I doubt that they would do anything that would harm the animals. Like someone said earlier in this post, what Infinite and APink are doing is basically fostering (so that the traumatized dogs would trust people again) except it's televised and they're celebrities. At least they're using their fame for a good cause. Lots of our local celebrities here do the same as well and it has helped improve the condition of many strays somehow.
