The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) recently conducted a survey on the brand image of South Korea among young people in Europe. They surveyed 1208 youths, aged 18-30 years old, in five major European cities -- London, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan and Budapest.
When asked about what comes to mind they think of South Korea, the respondents answered North Korea (9%), K-Pop (6.9%) and Seoul (6.5%). Others mentioned war, Samsung, kimchi, the 2002 FIFA World Cup and taekwondo.
When asked about K-pop singers, the respondents cited BIGBANG (8.8%), BEAST (5.8%), Girls Generation (5.5%), Dong Bang Shinki (3.3%) and Rain (3.0%).
Awareness of South Korea and a preference for Korean culture and the country itself were highest in Hungary, followed by France, Italy, Britain and Germany.Source: BBupdate

Date: 2012-01-18 04:53 pm (UTC)it's like this survey has been made between my friends and i.
but where exactly has it been made... i mean, random people or in universities where you can learn korean, etc.
and to conclude: why no ygfam concert in europe already? billions of polls showed that we prefer big bang over any group we get.

Date: 2012-01-18 06:23 pm (UTC)If Korea reads it they'll again say kpop takes over the world etc, and like Music Bank in Paris, it's going to disappoint some later lol.
OT but your icon is wonderful. Is it some artwork or something? I really really like it...

Date: 2012-01-18 10:08 pm (UTC)For the news reports, imo, it's not all about the trend but also depends on the journalist, if he really is ubiquitous etc. If he catches the trend at the right moment etc..
But it seems like there's a good vibe for hallyu there anyway!

Date: 2012-01-19 08:09 am (UTC)I'm french. I just highly doubt hat people don't know what SK is. They might not be able to point it in a map but not knowing it entirely is pure nonsense.
