Nine Muses are sick of being called "Model-Dols"

In a recent interview with Sports Donga, girl group Nine Muses expressed that they want to move past their image as "model-dols" with their current comeback. Several members of the group had modeling careers prior to their 2010 debut, which some felt hindered their ability to be recognized as singers. The group is optimistic that their new single, "News", composed by Sweet Tune, the writers of KARA's "Mister", will bring success and change their image.

"We believe that it was all a remedy for us to be acknowledged as a unique group," the group said. "We felt really good. We even heard ghosts while we were recording [in Korea, a good omen]. We worked so hard during the shooting of the music video that Euaerin even hurt her hand and bled. Furthermore, it's the year of the black dragon and two of our members (Eunji and Euaerin) were born in the year of the dragon. There are lots of signs that say that we will do well this year."




Nine Muses began to receive more attention after releasing "Figaro" (also composed by Sweet Tune) last year, and has recently added a new member, Kyungri, for their "News" comeback. Sports Donga reported that Kyungri has a lively personality that "makes" the group's atmosphere. "We finally realized we are one team," the group even commented.

"The words that hurt the most were, 'They should've just stuck with modelling'," they said. "But now, we want to stick out as artists. We want to create a 'Nine Muses dance.' We have many female fans. I don't think our male fans express their affection for us much. We will work harder so that our male fans can confidently say that they like us."

Nine Muses performed "News" on Music Bank today and will continue promoting the new single on music programs.

Thing is, most of them were chosen for their looks.
So even if they have nice voice or good singing ability most people won't go pass their looks.
That's the main problem for idol, not just Nine muses.
Would people like SNDS as much if they were better singer but ugly?
Looks are very important in the idol business, it's up to them to show that they are more than a pretty face.

when they came out with 'no playboy', they were absolutely just model-dols, but from 'ladies' onwards, they're really becoming legit performers imo.

but that's when they were still in their prototype phase. this line-up is more stable and solid, so you don't have to worry about the latter part much.

see, the funny thing is, while they improved tremendously they still are so incredible green, i love their songs, but man they lack stage presence and charisma, i feel like no other company would have debuted their group in the state they debuted or even how they are right now.

During No Playboy you could tell they just got a bunch of pretty girls and taught them how to dance/sing but, now they have the charisma and their talent has increased since debut.

They're so tall and gorgeous it's kind of intimidating. I love News though. It's a great song and their comeback performances have been amazing, which is not something you can say for all comebacks. Their dancers can be kind of creepy though O.O

Hmmmm as much as I didn't used to like them they grew on me. I hope they can break their stereotype image. Kinda like how 5dolls has their nicknames.

Proving everyone wrong -- good for them! It'll be a bit hard to get rid of the model label because they ARE gorgeous and the company kept pushing this from the start but who says they can't be models who can sing? :D
