Big Bang will be releasing their Japanese debut single on 24th June titled ‘My Heaven’. They will be working with Universal Music Japan for their Japanese debut this time.

YG Entertainment said in an interview on the 22nd, “Big Bang had went to Japan for Japanese promotions last weekend, and had came back to Korea today. In Tokyo, you can hear ‘My Heaven’ everywhere.”

“Big Bang will not be aiming to be one of the idols working with Universal Japan but as artistes. GDragon together with the other Big Bang members will bring with them their song-writing capabilities and promote as artistes.”

The YG representative also said, “At the entrance of Universal Japan office, you can see 2 photos, one is Black Eyed Peas and the other one is Big Bang’s.”

The boys will be appearing for the morning programme ‘Mezamashitere TV’ on the day of their debut single release, and they will also be appearing on SMAP member Cho NanGang’s Fuji TV ‘Waratte Iitomo’ on 26th June.

The boys will then move on to release their 2nd single in Japan title ‘Gara Gara GO’.

This should be interesting to see. I do sincerely hope they break into the Japanese market because they're too good of a group for the Japanese (and the rest of the world goddamnit!) to miss out on!

LOL their Japanese skills are probably too poor to be able to really appear as idols there, so they are trying out the "artiste" route.

pardon me if this is The Stupidest Question, but regardless of this 'concept' they'll still be on the same charts as, let's say, Avex artistes (Koda Kumi, DBSK) and Japanese idols (JE... JE...JE.)?

I don't even think Big Bang can be idols in Japan anyway.. that's only JE x:

That's good. DBSK aren't seen as idols in Japan too, since if they took the idol route they would have failed. Everyone knows Johnny's are the ultimate idols in Japan. Johnny's and Morning Musume have crazy fans comparable to Korean fans.

(this calls for a johnny icon, lol)

I agree with you, because technically, yes, they are still idols-- a boyband who has looks and talents (I don't necessarily say all JE boys have awesome talents but who cares, right? Idol business is shallow). I think they're not idols in the case that Johnny's are in Japan.

In Korea and Japan, idols aren't really taken seriously. I don't know what I mean by this, but I guess it's just that there are still idol stereotypes in Korea-- like you have to be slim, and you're not that good of a singer, and you're not that good of an actor, you're just basically an entertainer. I think that's why some people (in Korea, example: Yoo Young Suk) are sometimes surprised when an idol sings really well (and example again, Kyuhyun) or does well in one category. It's like, whoa, he can go solo, why be an idol? And that stereotype applies in Japan.

Why do I think DBSK aren't idols in Japan? Simply because they're not in direct competition with Johnny's. That's it. Yes, they're still idols if we're talking about image and packaging and whatnot, but they don't fit in the "Japanese idols" mold.

Ummm...artistes? Really? >_>; *skeptical* Hm.

At any rate, I hope the boys don't work too much in Japan. It's really not their territory. I hope they go back to Korea to work before they're all but forgotten. I wish them luck, but as history has shown us, hip-hop/rap and Japan have never been great friends.

oh wow they appeared in so many bangumi considering this is their first single. it took TVXQ much longer to be invited for their first tv show. universal is much more aggressive in promoting their artist compared to avex
good luck to them ^^

Okay... time to tell what I can see here.

I don't noticed BB playing anywhere *really*, and I have been in Nagoya at least twice in a week, for all the past month. *just get there yesterday*. I had listened to DBSK nes japanese single a bit... here and there.
But, IT'S TRUE FACT, JE rules the masculine Idol Market here. DBSK now are well respected artists, and their popularity are growing with each new single, but that's another thing to take a note: They have to change a bit their style to fit the Japanese market. The sales of their only-japanese or their korean-japanese singles are different, they usually sells better when it's a japanese single. Their korean style are a bit agressive to the japanese market, I think... *this happens to SS501 too*.
And, about JE, it's a magical thing here. 'Cause you see them growing up, and you fall in love with them, wish them to debut, support them as Juniors. The public grows up with them... and even when they get older, the fans will support *it's pretty common seeing Onesans at the bookstore with the JE Idols magazines*.

riiiight.
they better be ready for hardwork...
what i don't understand is most idols' aversion to the title 'idol'
i mean... even if they have lots of talent and really work on their songs, their first appeal is their fashionable-yadda-yadda image... people still idolize them... they're idols. get over it.

if they were ugly but people still loved their music, i guess they'd be artists~ rather than idols. like idols are also based on their image and flashiness. idk thats what im getting.
