You might know the editorials I also post from koreaboo about K-rock/Indie. While they are nice they never really focus on metal music. And since that's my favorite genre I decided to dedicate a post just to K-metal

Terrormight
Terrormight is a Korean melodic death metal band. They started out in 2006 under the name Kage and released a demo in 2009. In 2010 their full length album 'Civilization Down' came out.

NECRAMYTH
NECRAMYTH was a brutal trash metal band from Seoul. Their latest album 'Slaughter of the Seoul' was released in 2009. They had many line-up changes but when Urlock left the band they split up.

Crash
Crash was formed in 1991 with the lineup of Ahn Heung-Chan (vocals, bass guitar), Jung Yong-Wook (drums) and Yoon Doo-Byung (guitar). They were also the first Korean band provoking slam dance and stage diving in their concert.

In 1993, they recorded their debut album Endless Supply of Pain with an internationally famous death metal producer Colin Richardson with whom the band will collaborate in their third and fourth album again. Endless Supply of the Pain was a critical and commercial success with more than 80,000 copies sold in 1993.

Ahn Heung-chan has also provided his backing vocals on two hardcore rap tracks of third album of Korean pop superstars, Seo Taiji & Boys.

After a more death metal-oriented second album To Be or Not to Be, original guitarist Yoon was fired from the band. Their third album, Experimental State of Fear, was recorded in 1997 with two new guitarists, taking a more experimental approach, with the introduction of an industrial aspect to their thrash sound.

As of today, Crash has released five full-length albums. They participated in the D.R.I. tribute album We Don't Need Society with a cover version of "Acid Rain" as well as a Stormtroopers of Death tribute album with a cover of "Sargent D & the S.O.D.".

On August 10, 2010, Crash released their 6th album.

Blackhole
Blackhole is speed/power metal band and started out in 1986. They have released 8 albums so far.

Legend
Started out in 2006 and are a melodic speed metal band. Released their full length album 'The Lost world' in 2009

Ghostwind
Gostwind is a Korean folk metal band. This song is taken from their first album, '10,000 years ago'. They made a second album, still metal, but more... well, Korean - the singer uses a korean traditional technique called pansori, and the music itself is a blend of traditional instruments and metal.

Gaia
A Gothic Metal band that incorporates traditional Korean music by way of the Haegeum instrument.

thank you for this post OP. i was a huge metalhead before i took a liking to overproduced pop, i've tried looking for good k-metal once but it all sounded like watered down nu metal.
i can't listen to these now but the minute i get home im going to take a listen.

Legend is amazing. The rest well... I have trouble with female vocals on metal so although I love folk metal over everything, I have to give up on the last two due the female vocals.

Gaia would really work out, love the song but the vocals -.- why why why

I have quite many friends who have the trouble listening female vocals, there has to be something that just doesn't work. Sure there are some that are amazing amazing female vocals in metal and I listen to those but very rare.

I'm from Finland, I listen to all folk metal bands from here :D Turisas, Finntroll, Ensiferum, Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Metsatoll (well Estonia is almost like Finland anyways haha)

I love female vocals in metal but I'm very picky about how the vocals sound but I agree I think Gaia would work out better if they had different vocals.

heh I tried to think of an argument for female vocalists but realised that the only one I really like is Mikkanibal from Sigh, and she sounds exactly like a male vocalist.

(they have a male vocalist as well)

Exactly, it's hard to find good female vocals. But I think Tarja the ex-Nightwish vocalist is amazing, her voice is really good for symphonic metal and I think Arch Enemy's vocalist is fairly good too for a female.

out of these, i think i like Terrormight the best. they remind me a bit of Misery Signals.
Gostwind is probably my second fave. they remind me a bit of Within Temptation/Nightwish etc.

Omg, I loved Terrormight and Legend, they're exactly my fave kind of metal bands. I don't usually like trash or death metal, but I have a huge soft spot for melodic death metal, so Terrormight pleases me a lot. And Legend is quite good too, aaaah, I feel like looking for more things by them.

I thought I would enjoy Gaia more, I think it wasn't as heavy as I was expecting? lmfao.

I love this post, thank you, OP!

Some were pretty good but some were a bit generic sounding to me. I think I would like Gaia more if the vocals were different. I went and listened to some other tracks from them and the other vocals could use work as well.

yeah this is exactly it for me

I mean they're all decent but don't really stand out in any way to make me want to buy their albums or anything
