Japanese police have arrested the members of the Korean pop group “Great” – who were apparently working despite having only come to the country on tourist visas:

The group arrived in Japan in October on tourist visas. Despite being aware of the fact that their activities were an illegal violation of the visa terms, they’ve given about 70 concerts in Tokyo.

From the video clip, we can see that the police raid took place at Seichi Entertainment’s concert house in Shin-Okubo. Here are a description of the business from the Mainichi:

Groups of female fans are often seen waiting on a street in the Shinjuku Ward district for performances at the K-pop music hall Seichi, which has been offering three stages a day of young Korean musicians since it opened in April.

The hall, with a capacity of about 200 people and meaning “sacred place” in Japanese, hosts both South Korean and domestically formed K-pop acts.

It is located in the basement of a multiple-tenant building on a street lined with Korean restaurants in an area known as Korea town.

“I think this place is a culture base to sustain the Korean boom,” said Chu Kwang Ho, 56, manager of Seichi.

And here is a YouTube video of them, calling on fans to check out one of their illegal performances:

Judging from the lack of many pictures and videos of the group, it seems that they were relatively unknown and just getting their start in Japan. If they were hoping to cash in on the K-pop boom in Japan, they will have to give up that dream now. After this visa violation they’ll probably be barred from entering the country for at least a few years.

How many puns can come out of this story and the fact that the group's name is Great?

omg from the title I was scared this was gonna be about JQT. If they were aware they shouldn't have done it. It's probably really difficult to get whatever type of visa they need but the risk they took wasn't worth it in the end.

I'm not sure if Japan is the same way but basically that's what JYJ did in the US (meaning tourist visas!) except they made their concerts for free. Because the second that you make profit from your concert and stuff, it becomes illegal.

Honestly though, that's dumb. You've just ruined ANY chance you had at being able to come BACK to a country, let alone performing in one. HOPE IT WAS WORTH IT!!

They applied for VISAs though. They were rejected so they had to change their concerts. They didn't go in knowing they would only have tourist VISAs though.

I thought they went in wanting Entertainment Visas, got rejected and were in America WITH tourist visas?

They probably had to get tourist visas to come to the US while they were waiting for their working visas to get approved. They probably didn't think they would get rejected. I believe they said it was because they hadn't been performing under the name JYJ for more than a year so they were rejected. I would have been so pissed if they cancelled it.

Yeah, American law states that to get working visas as a group you have to be together for more than a year (I think it had officially been like 6 months) and have achievements such as awards etc. to show for it. It makes sense, all of their achievements were under TVXQ until the last minute.

This is true. I think they gave them the tourist visas, but gave them the clause that they couldn't techinically perform. I think it was ridiculous from CJES though to not know the restrictions of other countries. This was their first official performance out of Korea (Japan tech doesn't count) and the US is pretty strict when it comes to performers. Rain is major example #1.

My first reaction was to laugh, but then I felt sorry for them. I wonder if they knew they were working illegally. This situation is so disturbing to me now.

Who are they? Legit question, I tend to know most nugu's, but I'm unfamiliar with them?

If they were oblivious to not having the proper visa's, then I feel bad for them. Bad management.

Oh dear. Bad management. I wonder if anyone spoke up, because if they were as aware as stated then shouldn't someone say something? And even if they did obviously management didn't listen. How disturbing :F

The walk of shame, LMAO.

On a serious note, I feel sorry for them plus this news doesn't help with the anti-hallyu sentiment some Japanese have.

and the sad thing is besides screwing things over for themselves cause Japan is extremely serious about visas is that they've screwed up things for other groups trying to build a fanbase in Japan before major debuting
