At the YG Family Concert, G-Dragon and Daesung spoke for the first time about the unfortunate incidents that happened over the past year. All five Big Bang members performed together for the first time since their “Love Song” promotions earlier this year.
After singing “Tonight,” T.O.P first opened up by saying, “It’s overwhelming to have all five Big Bang members back together on the same stage,” bringing tears to thousands of fans in attendance. “I’m happy to be on stage to celebrate YG Entertainment’s 15th year anniversary. This past year was a busy and eventful year for YGE, yet you all stood by us and supported us and we’d like to thank you for that.”
Daesung added, “It’s really been a long time since I performed on stage. I’m just happy to be here. The hardship I went through gave me a chance to realize how precious music and the stage are to me. I’ll always be thankful to go on stage.”
G-Dragon also said, “I’m so sorry for causing so much trouble because of my mistake. I’ll make sure not to have the same thing happen again. I think the only way to show my appreciation is to come up with better music and performance. I’ll do my best to give a big present to the fans.”
Daesung stopped all Big Bang activities after the car accident in May and G-Dragon has been involved in a marijuana scandal last October, stalling all promotions as a group.
Today’s concert was part of the annual YG Family Concert that began since 1997. This year marks the 15 year anniversary and featured all of the top YG artists, including 2NE1, Gummy, Se7en, JinuSean, Psy, andTablo. The next YG Family concert will be held in Osaka on January 7 and 8, followed by two concerts in Tokyo on January 21 and 22.

their last promotions were a hot fuckin' mess. i mean i liked some of the music but they just seemed so...separated on stage...TY's over the top ridiculous dancing didn't help that.
if they could just spend the next year together as one, no solo activities---just performing and promoting as a group. T___T that is my one dream right now.

Date: 2011-12-04 05:53 pm (UTC)and i wondered if it was simple because he didnt put nearly as much effort in to dancing as before. it's like they've all settled into their separate identities. like TY as the usher wanna-be, GD as the "singer" "songwriter" fashionista, TOP as the cool GQBAMF, Ri as the troll-tastic JT wanna-be, and Dae as the soulful but goofy ballad crooner.
and so, last promotion round they felt disjointed. and the decision to have TY take over the chorus (WHO THE FUCK DECIDED THAT??!!!!) even made them SOUND different.
if they could bring it back to when we saw their differences but admired them as a group. if they could lose that auto tune and go back to the awesomeness of the LIES era (the ALWAYS minialbum will forever be one of the greatest releases) then i can relax. that five year curse looming over them isnt helping at all.

Date: 2011-12-04 06:22 pm (UTC)In a way, I think that this forced hiatus forced them together much more effectively than making a mini-album did. When I saw their long faces during their activities after Dae's accident, I knew right then and there that if they were given a chance to shine in the future, somehow they'd be all right -- especially after reading that GD had reached out to Dae at his church. Dae himself has said before that he doesn't like to burden the others with his problems, and that he was always the one listening. It broke my heart when I heard that, but GD going to Dae's church... It felt like maybe he finally opened up. I didn't know how long it would take for him to heal, and I was prepared for it to take as long as Dae felt like he needed, but I knew they'd be fine. And it looks like they are.
I can't say for the future and BB's next album, but I do feel like they're much more united at this point, which makes my heart weep with pure, unadulterated joy :)
... Anyway!
TY needs to not be the main singer anymore. How he went from actually pretty darn good in the debut days to horrifying now is a mystery, but it looks to me like he's been focusing too much on dancing and not on singing. Oh well. Pass the torch then. He himself told Seungri once that "you shouldn't try to be good at everything." Well, there you go. Practice what you preach, hon.

Date: 2011-12-04 06:44 pm (UTC)OMG YES! what happened was terrible for everyone but i cant help but think that what happened with daesung and GD were signs for the boys to slow down and recommit to each other and their desire to be seen more as artists and less as idols.
this time was hopefully spent making better music. i look forward to another release from them. rumor has it we could get it as soon as january. i'm putting my money on march at the absolute latest.

Date: 2011-12-04 07:06 pm (UTC)I agree they looked really disjointed earlier this year esp. during Tonight. I could hardly bear to watch their stages tbh because it just didn't feel right. Not just TY, but everyone seemed to be doing their own thing. Love Song and Stupid Liar were much better though in terms of unity and performance.
This year was really horrible and stressful for them and I would never want to repeat it but in a weird way, I think it was just what they needed. I think their hardships brought them closer together than they have been in a while and I'm excited to see how they will show this into their next album/performances.
