When a priest is accidentally turned into a blood-sucking vampire, he is forced to fight for his own humanity as seen in the brand new Korean teaser trailer of "Thirst". Opened with a shot of a man wandering around what seems to be a monastery, the video footage, which is lacking English subtitle, presents the background story of how Sang-hyun becomes a vampire.
Coming from the director of "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK", "Thirst" tells the story about a priest named Sang-hyun who participates in a medical experiment to find a cure for a deadly disease with traumatic repercussions. But, when the experiment goes askew, he becomes a vampire. Tortured and depraved, he falls into an affair with a wife of his childhood friend. As things turn for worse, he struggles to maintain what's left of his humanity.
Starring Song Kang-ho as Sang-hyun, it is supported by Shin Ha-kyun, Kim Ok-bin and Eriq Ebouaney. Directed and produced by Park Chan-wook, the horror thriller was also written by Chan-wook along with Seo-Gyeong Jeong. It will be opened in South Korea in April, while Focus Features will handle the U.S. distribution sometime later this year.

Date: 2009-03-17 04:39 am (UTC)FINALLY SAW THE TRAILER. It's so dark and right up my alley, I've been trying to get into more regular vampire stuff and not just romance & vampires. I hope it turns out good because I totally interested.

Date: 2009-03-18 02:52 am (UTC)Also intrigued as to why Park Chan-wook involves Australia in his films/filming - Lady Vengeance's daughter was adopted by Australians (pretty lulzy but cute portrayal) and I'm pretty sure they filmed some [most?] of Thirst in Adelaide, South Australia (the city of churches dontchyaknow)
...Okay, so it's only two mentions but it's still super awesome though! When you think of the West you mainly think America/Canada, UK/Western Europe, then Australia/NZ (and seeing as Park Chan-wook goes off the beaten path I guess that prolly explains why). And I feel lame for getting excited when my country's existence is acknowledged - I'll stop blathering about crap now :|
PS: Vampires > Zombies > Werewolves. My old Buffy love trumps my Left 4 Dead obsession (just by a bit though)
PPS: Ninjas > Pirates < Robots. Sorry Jack Sparrow but I think Terminators and Transformers win [until they go up against ninjas that is]
