SM Entertainment, who manages popular groups and artistes like Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, Dong Bang Shin Ki and more, has seen an increase in it’s stock value – to reach ₩12 Billion.

At Noon, on the 17th, SM Entertainment announced the increase of ₩ 19,100,000,000. The company’s President, Lee Soo Man, holds 27% of the shares.

On 2 January 2009, the first trading day of the year, SM’s stock was valued at ₩6,860,000,000. They have managed to reach their target of hitting ₩12 Billion within 6 months.

The increase of SM Entertainment’s stock value by more than 50% in the first half of the year is mostly due to the many activities by Girls’ Generation and Super Junior.

One of the largest shareholders being Bae Yong Jun, Keyeast Co’s shares rose to ₩4,000,000,000 and Rain’s company J-Tune Entertainment’s shares rose to ₩2,400,000,000.

Used to be in a deficit, broke even and now they're booming. Good.

Too bad SNSD and Super Junior will never get to see the profits they helped SM gain. :/
Time for some kickass bonuses that would even make Teuk stop being so emo? I believe so.

That's actually not that much money compared to what US record companies would be worth. ₩19 Billion is about $19,000,000 Australian.

that is one really big sum of money.

They better be giving suju and snsd bonuses, or a break, as a reward or smth srsly.

Won is so deceiving lol. You see the word billion and it's like OH SHIT. But when you convert it to other currencies it loses the impact.

Isn't Seoul like one of the most expensive cities in the world? So are designer clothes and stuff like millions/trillions of won? This is interesting.

yeah, if you want regular clothing then it's cheaper, but if you want to go for designer/brand name stuff, apparently it's more expensive than what you would get it for in the states. i think that's what makes it so expensive.

Oh cool. I'm cheap. If it fits and looks alright, I'm good. : )

lol i think i read something like this on soompi before.
but the article only talked about the first 3 months of 2009 so they only mentioned snsd.. so of course suju/dbsk fans went crazy calling the article bs .. which later ended up in bashing snsd as usual lawl.

korean artists get like absolutely no money. that's why they all try to make it in Japan eventually. even flopping there makes more money than being reasonably successful in Korea.

I mean, if the artists get paid for their individual activities. I can see why they go on so many shows.

People make such a big deal about the amount of money the arists get or whatever but it's not like they're starving them and paying them in pennies. They make plenty, it's just, comparatively, no where near the millions artists outside of Korea make.

Date: 2009-06-19 09:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vanillacat.livejournal.com
... isn't that still only, like, $15 million USD? That's... not a lot... American artists are expected to make that much like, off of one concert tour.

From: [identity profile] dreamerbri.livejournal.com
You guys need to understand that the Korean music industry is not nearly as profitable as the ones in America, England, and Japan. How often do you hear about Vietnamese or Polish music for instance? Very few people outside of the country bother listening to it. I can't name a single artist from Ghana that's as big as the Beatles or Mariah Carey (for instance). The South Korean market is getting bigger though.
