SYNOPSIS

This is a true account of what took place inside a school for the deaf in South Korea, where the principal and some teachers repeatedly sexually molested and abused several hearing impaired children. The film is ultimately an indictment of society as a whole, shining a light on the dehumanization of the disabled, and the inadequate protections of justice for society's most vulnerable members.

Kang In-Ho (Gong Yoo) is a newly appointed teacher at a school for the hearing-impaired in Mujin city. On the first day, In-Ho meets the school's principal and director of administration; They are identical twins. Facing various financial pressures, he pays his way into landing a job at the school by bribing the principal and his twin brother.

While teaching the hearing-impaired students, In-Ho feels a strange presence as the kids seem to be distraught and paranoid which is shown in their behavior. Slowly, In-Ho begins to uncover the truth behind this strange behavior as the kids are constantly abused and mistreated by some of the faculty members. In-Ho reaches out to Yoo-Jin, a lady from the human rights center who he had met before beginning work to help investigate. Soon, In-Ho and Yoo-Jin discover unfathomable actions committed by some of the school's faculty members and led by the principal. Both In-Ho and Yoo-Jin begin the fight in exposing the horrible crimes of said faculty members and take matters to court. Meanwhile, In-Ho feels his own pressures to stay silent as his job is hanging by a thin thread of bribery.

Holder Center has been providing shelter for the actual victims of "Silenced" ("The Crucible") since the initial Inhwa incident in 2006 (hence the "holder2006" in its official URL). The donation proceeds will be used to provide for these victims from buying clothes and everyday essentials for the children, educating Center students on general hygiene and sexual education to coordinating group activities, such as trips to museums and ski resorts. Additionally, the Center has previously combined efforts with the adapted novel author Gong Ji-young and few other Korean celebrities to sponsor "Joyful Dogani" (행복의 도가니) Benefit Concert in May 2011.

couldn't finish the trailer because it started to trigger some things but this is going to be a very powerful movie

hopefully this will raise awareness for abused disabled children and abused children in general. it's one of the most unfair things in the world to strip a child of their innocence and joy.

I hate that these kind of great films are never shown in cinemas at my country. We only get Twilight and those kind of shitty movies, but these ones that could teach something and are really well-made will never reach Europe I bet. >.<"

omg, this looks great. i must say that gong yoo is looking distractingly good in the movie poster...

i mean, i shouldn't be checking him out, but i can't help it.

anyway, i'm excited for this movie and that it's giving a voice to a group that often isn't heard. thank god for the arts. since the media stopped being real whistle-blowers, the public has few ways of being alerted to such issues. i'm glad they've made this movie.

anyone going to the "chicago" location???
