Former H.O.T. member Moon Hee Jun took a stroll down memory lane recently and revealed how he went on dates during his idol days.

On the upcoming episode of OBS‘s ‘Kim Gura and Moon Hee Jun’s Gossip Girl‘, Moon Hee Jun said that he used to go on dates in vans during his H.O.T. days. “These days, idols can publicly go on dates; in the past, however, we couldn’t do that… we mainly enjoyed our dates inside vans,” he said.

But why vans? Moon Hee Jun explained, “The van is ideal because we could avoid the public’s eye, and we could also order sweet and sour pork from there as well. It was a nice place to spend a date…”

He continued, “There are three premises for idol dating rumors to spread. When two people are in contact with each other, dating rumors spread. Of course, dating rumors also come up that are baseless and have no evidence. The last case is when two people try to convey their feelings of sympathy to one another through stares. This last instance is the most unfortunate.”

In response, ZE:A‘s Kwang Hee – who made an appearance on the show — said, “Although, [idols] used to date secretly in the past, they can now enjoy dates in the public’s eye… The only difference between the past and present is that four to five people go on secret group dates now.”

It's really odd how in America (or everywhere else) no one really cares that much when pop stars are in a relationship, while in Korea people shit their pants. It must really suck for idols, and eventually when they do come out they get shit for hiding the relationship in the first place like Se7en and Park Han Byul (when there's really no other alternative).

exactly. I just never understood this about Korean fans... idols are people too. They should be allowed to have some sort of a life even though they're entertainers. The only American celeb that kinda comes close to this would be Justin Bieber, and how his fans sent Selena Gomez death threats and stuff when it was revealed they were dating... but I think people have gotten used to it now. Lol.

yeah with american "idol stars" they have their share of heartbroken fangirls but i've never heard of the backlash being anything like it is in k-pop. plus every weekend there are new pap pics of them making out on the beach lol so i think everyone's gotten over it now.

i think it's because the korean idol industry is promoted in such a way that it feeds into fans delusions of "owning" their oppa/unnie. like, they spend so much money on you from albums/concerts/music show tickets/birthday gifts/food etc and they're well aware that the money that goes to the idol is cut from the original amount (that goes to the company, etc) so they don't like knowing that the money the idol gets is used for dates and gifts for the person they're dating.

I think it's because kpop idols market a kind of 'innocent' or at least a 'clean' image? Whereas in America, there's a weird give-up attitude of 'everyone sleeps around' and 'everyone sleeps with everyone' anyways~ *shrugs*

I think a lot of ppl who have Asian parents have the experience of having them tell you that 'dating around' causes rumors and 'cheapens' your value (for girls anyways). I don't necessarily agree nor is it entirely useless advice, but I don't think I'm the only one's who's heard something like this before.

It's the same attitude towards the intake of certain illegal drugs.

Idols don't get to 'enjoy' dating in the public eye. The minute the netizens hear about it, they're like 'HOW COULD *enter boyband name here* OPPA DATE *enter female name here*?!?!?! OPPA IS DESTINED TO BE WITH MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!'

Just saying.

"These days, idols can publicly go on dates..."
Really? If they want to be killed by fans, maybe.
