Secret, “fiercely and amazingly, we’ll move our fans’ love”

“Love is something that moves!”
It’s not a copy of an advertisement. Secret revealed their title song, ‘Love is Move’, off their 1st official album, ‘Moving in Secret’, on the 18th. In other words, ‘love moves’.

As SNSD came back on the 19th, the girl group battle that has been heating up the music industry, has become more intense. Secret are quite the late comers for this battle, but they’ve come with the very meaningful title of ‘Love is Move’. In this song, the members constantly repeat, “Love is something that moves”. It sounds like a determination to move the love of fans.

“All of our songs so far have come out at the same time that higher seniors came back with new songs. So it was pointed out that we keep picking a bad time to reveal songs, but we still stayed alive like weeds. I believe that our fans will understand it too once we show all that we’ve worked hard for.”

Now that I look at it, ‘Magic’ overlapped with Lee Hyori and Rain, ‘Madonna’ with BoA and DJ DOC, ‘Shy Boy’ with DBSK, ‘Starlight Moonlight’ with Kim Hyunjoong and 2PM. However, all their songs have received love from the public and ‘Shy Boy’ and ‘Starlight Moonlight’ have gotten 1st place on music programs. With this, they’ve built up a strong base for popularity.

Is it because of that confidence? Without any sign of being burdened with SNSD’s comeback, they laughed and said, “Because they’re seniors that we respect and look up to, it would be quite an honor if you thought of it like that. We feel like we’re following the footsteps of our seniors well.”




Before Secret debuted, Sunhwa was on KBS 2TV’s ‘Invincible Youth’ with SNSD’s Yuri and Sunny. She said, “Since they’re unnies who took care of me well, it’s amazing to think that our promotion times overlap with them.”

The 4 members of Secret, who showed cute and cheerful charms through ‘Shy Boy’ and ‘Starlight Moonlight’, show a different charm through ‘Love is Move’. They show pride and assertiveness this time. The lyrics are about a boyfriend who thinks ‘easily’ of his girlfriend and she’s warning him that she can leave at any time.

Differing from ‘Starlight Moonlight’, which raised the average age of their fans with the slow tempo for the song and dance, the beats in ‘Love is Move’ are fast and their performances have become more fierce. It seems to remind me of their ‘Magic’ and ‘Madonna’ days.
“The first song that Secret received love with was ‘Magic’. We feel that Secret’s positive point at that time was that we could show an amazing and fierce performance that other girl groups couldn’t show. Although we received love with our cute transformation, we wanted to relive our original positive point.”

Besides this, there are a total of 9 new songs on their 1st official album. Zinger’s solo song, ‘Amazinger’, especially garnered attention. Zinger said, “I haven’t been able to show my side as a rapper often, but I was able to write a lot of raps for this album since there were more songs and I also added in a solo song.” She explained, “This solo song is about how I did hip-hop and the hurt I received after debuting through negative comments. Despite those comments, my love for hip-hop never changed and that’s what the song is about.”

The lead vocalist, Song Jieun, added, “The solo song is a present for Zinger, who had to be patient because she had to match with Secret even though there were other types of music that she wanted to do.”

I'm glad that they pointed out what I'd been thinking about their strategy all along - If Secret had been releasing music just to reach #1s and win music shows, they wouldn't have released the songs that they did when they did. "Starlight Moonlight", for example, makes absolutely no sense if they had wanted to ensure instant popularity. I think this is part of why I like Secret so much. They don't function the same way that other idol groups do and they are more about establishing a stable presence in the music industry instead of flash in the pan popularity.

Also, I love how they recognize that Zinger hadn't been able to do different kinds of music that she had wanted. <3
