Sources say it’s their new girl group!

Over the past few days, two 6Theory Media (allkpop) executives (Johnny Noh& Daniel Lee) have been hinting on their respective Twitter accounts that something big involving their company is about to be revealed.
These hints have been re-tweeted by allkpop’s official Twitter account, and it has generated a significant amount interest among their readers, leading many fans to speculate wildly about what’s coming. allkpop has already denied early speculation among fans that the five girls in the pictures are 4minute or Girl’s Day, which only piqued reader curiosity further.
Much like every other time 6Theory Media executives have hinted at a big reveal (layouts/partnerships/etc), it points to significant news, and it doesn’t seem like this announcement will disappoint either.

So who are they then? Asian Junkie has the answer to your question.
Multiple sources close to the situation have confirmed to us that allkpop’s big announcement involves the revealing of a brand new girl group!
Perhaps that news on its own isn’t groundbreaking, but the additional fact that allkpop will have a stake in the girl group is groundbreaking.
The five girls in the picture are indeed the members of the group, and the reason allkpop flew out to Los Angeles was to be present for the filming of the group’s music video teaser.
Of course, despite our information on what the hyped secret was about, there’s still a lot to reveal. Their debut date, debut concept, and debut single are all unknowns at this point.
Most importantly, it’s yet to be confirmed who exactly the girls are. All that’s known about the individuals in the shots is that allkpop has had a hand in the recommendation and selection of the members, so there’s the possibility that there are members from the United States, perhaps even allkpop contest winners.
Other potential question marks surrounding the situation involve the exact stake 6Theory Media will have in this girl group and what role allkpop will play in the partnership.

As far the initial reaction this announcement might generate from readers, I expect those with skeptical and resentful feelings to come out in full force against allkpop for whatever reason they can concoct. Sometimes the anger is warranted, sometimes the anger is not, but regardless of how you feel about allkpop, this move could be massive for international fans everywhere.
Assuming our sources are correct, the announcement should be coming within the next few weeks, and allkpop breaking this new ground is officially going to make things interesting in the realms of market competition, international fan access, and responsible journalism.

1) If the group can find success, allkpop will have changed the game.
What would change if the group goes on to find popularity? Potentially a lot.
Their success would basically open a whole other dimension for K-pop sites to explore. It will set a precedent for artist success in partnering with a foreign based media company, and like in every other market, everybody else will be quick to emulate. I’m not just talking about competing international sites, but competing companies in Korea as well.
If it works out, the potential for this to expand exponentially is massive.
2) Be prepared for a different type of access.
allkpop commonly gets exclusives with celebrities, as do certain other competitors (Soompi). However, rarely are the exclusives game changing.
What I mean by that is while it’s cool to get messages or autographs, it’s not anything that would truly give the reader any real depth of access to the group. However, that could all change with an international K-pop site having a direct affiliation and stake in the group, as the level of access has the potential to be unprecedented to date.
3) This opens up a can of worms as far as how the international K-pop sites handle journalism.
Given that a financial stake or direct influence has an inherent and known bias, how everybody in the game reacts should be telling.
How does allkpop cover their own group? How does allkpop handle the group’s accomplishments or controversy? Which news stories involving the group do they write about and which do they ignore? How will they review the group’s work?
How will their competitors cover the group? Will they maintain a normal level of coverage or ignore the group? Will they only write negative stories or provide appropriate balance? How will they evaluate the group?
All of those questions are things that readers will get to see answered shortly.
How each and every international site in the K-pop world handles these questions should be enough to give you a firm idea of where they stand on journalism. It’s a litmus test for everybody involved, and if nothing else, it’s worth it just for that.
—
Regardless of how you feel about 6Theory Media or allkpop, this venture should be well worth it for the company and readers alike.
While I hold skepticism about the profit margins to be gained off this specific deal, the potential implications of the group are huge and well worth the risk. Similarly, for everybody sitting back and watching the show, there’s going to be plenty to monitor, so be sure to enjoy it.

Of course, our sources could be wrong. If that’s the case, then our bad.

Reactions, Omona?
UPDATE: TY to everyone who showed up to the Omona auditions today after school by the bike racks. It was definitely a great success and we will be calling you all shortly to let you know your group positions!
UPDATE 2: For those who had chess club, dentist appointments or soccer practice, etc, another round of auditions will take place tomorrow. Same time, same place. Carpool will be set up for those without rides.
This is a game changer. TYFYT <3
