KARA gets a record for something that isn't true

According to the Gaon chart rankings released on the 7th, KARA’s third full Korean album, “Step,” has grabbed the top spot on the album sales chart for the month of September. The album sold 97,667 copies in the past month, beating out all the other artists. This is the first time that a girl group has been ranked number one on the album sales chart since July, when 2NE1 managed to secure the top spot back then. Moreover, this is the first time for a female group to exceed 90,000 in album sales, with the 100,000 copies milestone within reach.

After KARA, Super Junior came in second place with their repackaged album, “A-Cha.” The album sold 97,210 in September, as the group lost to KARA by a mere 457 copies. In third place was Infinite, with a total of 34,704 copies of their album, “Paradise,” sold in the last month.

Super Junior also grabbed the fourth spot with “Mr. Simple.” After selling more than 287,000 copies of the album back in August, the group added 31,242 more copies to its record. Rounding out the top five is Sung Shikyung with his album “The First,” which sold 30,077 copies.

The rest of the chart includes: “Protect the Boss” OST with 23,894 copies, B1A4’s “It B1A4” with 20,791 copies, and Brown Eyed Girls’ “Sixth Sense” with 19,285 copies.

oh! was counted on their end of the year chart, irrc. gaon's numbers are always really inflated in comparison to hanteo. :/

Gaon counts shipments - returns, so we have to wait 'till year end chart to see truer numbers as Kara's album wasn't released too long ago (if there is returns those will show up later).

It probably means that this is the first time a girl group has attained the #1 position with over 90,000 copies. For instance, another girl group may have been #1 but sold 75k, etc.

Idk if most Korean articles are intentionally poorly worded to increase the drama or things are just lost in translation.
