Jaejoong was among the celebrities featured in this Japanese tribute to Park Yongha. His cut, and the translations of his remarks, are below.

Jaejoong: An actor who had much desire for his craft?

Jaejoong: Very much… How do you say… shall I say laughter? I feel that he was very much overflowing with smiles. Worries… He was someone with a lot of worries, always. To refrain from showing those worries—he tried hard to do that also. I don’t know what it was, but he always had so many worries. And the counseling on those worries—we had many of those, as hyung and dongsaeng. But I remember his face—the face that, even in the midst of them, never once lost the smile.

Jaejoong: Ah… he was a singer who always worked hard, and also always worried for the sake of his fans.

Jaejoong: A while ago… when I had gone to the United States and maybe two to three days had passed… I heard of the news. In the United States… as soon as I landed in the Los Angeles Airport, I had a call from Yongha hyung. “Where are you.” “In the US.” “Ah, so you’ve gone to the US. When you come back, let’s have a drink together.” He had said those words to me.

And even before that, when we had met in Japan, he had spoken repeatedly about that concert. Very much… let us keep improving, improving. Those words, he had told me repeatedly, over and over. But, then suddenly such a thing happened… Just… My mind had no thoughts. I was… for a very long time, just blank…

Jaejoong: He was someone that did not give off the feel of being a celebrity, at all. He was someone like the hyung next door. When you look at the results and the feats that Yongha hyung had accomplished in his life, he had a very high stature. Despite that, he showed himself as someone who, separate from the renown and popularity of celebrities, was a human being exactly like everyone else—very often.

So I feel that perhaps that is why the people around him loved very much the Yongha hyung, the man.

Jaejoong: When Yongha hyung did not have too many activities in Japan, we were in Japan quite a lot because of group activities. There was a time in which we lived in Japan for six months, a year. If my contact information changed, of if the contact information of those friends in Korea changed, then we would lose touch with each other—this happened from time to time. But in my voicemail, “My number changed. Are you healthy? Your health is the most important thing, so take care of it. And I miss you. And also… even once… I should go to you, to see you.” He’d say that. But many people say that—“let’s meet, let’s have a drink.” Often, those words just end in words. But he was someone who really kept to the words that he spoke. He really came all the way to Japan. Yongha hyung… before he left… he came to see a performance of ours, in Japan. He did say that because of a schedule he had to go out in the middle, but… He was someone who really kept every word.

Jaejoong: First, as a basic thing, we talked about music a lot. And also, performing—we talked about it a lot. We talked about acting also. We also talked about women. Yes. How do you say…? Really, what is strange is that he felt lonely a lot. He felt lonely quite often, but he relieved the loneliness with other things. I think probably that thing was music. Even though his main career was that of an actor… he’d say: “I really want to sing. I really want to sing, and… I want to begin anew, from the very beginning.”

Jaejoong: I think all the fans know. The musician or the actor they like… from behind the scenes, “how hard do they work for our sake?” I think the fans know the answer to that the best. He worried so very much. On stages that were so big, he had performed many times, and he also had so many fans. But for the sake of the fans in Japan… “from the little theatres, from the very beginning, I want to begin performing anew.” He’d tell me that in his worry, and would repeatedly ask me whether I thought that was okay. Because he had such a loving heart for the fans like that—probably that is why, even now, the fans are waiting for Yongha hyung.

Jaejoong: Ah… When I think of Hyung, already laughter comes forth from me. I… from Hyung… truly so many things I think I learned from you for a long time… and to the many people around me… the kind heart that Hyung showed… I am conveying that… and I want to also show it as you did… And also, your mother, your brother-in-law, your older sisters… I would contact them, have meals together with them and such… but now that you aren’t here… really you are missed…. The place where you are now—I visit it often… and talk to you very often, but… Ah… I do not know. But, I don’t know. More than any other thing, I wish that you are also happy where you are. So that even by just looking up at the sky, we will continue to have your smile come to our minds… please, continue to protect us… I wish you’d smile down at us. Really really, I love you. Thank you.

Thank you for posting this OP

I hope no one will conclude that he is ignorant when it comes to suicide. He has experienced it with Yongha and he knows how it feels because I believe at some point during the lawsuit he indeed experience serious depression or possibly that thought to end everything

.... this is... i really... have no words. i haven't personally experienced a friend committing suicide, but just the thought of one of my friends no matter how close/or just on 'familiar' terms committing suicide.. it's heartwrenching. and seeing how jaejoong is coping with it, how he expresses his love and how he saw park yongha as a person, and that he have been visiting his grave is just... tearing me up. :l it really is. and no matter how right or wrong the things he said regarding suicide, i appreciate that he actually talked about the entire topic as a whole and didn't sit there answering questions about things he have been asked thousands of times before.

whoever has done a little research on depression has an idea that even the professionals don't have an objective method of diagnosing it, let alone to suggest a cure.

people who experienced both grief and clinical depression at some point of their lives say that those are two different things.
In depression, unlike a grief, sadness is not a "front feeling". So they laugh, crack a joke. Yet, people struggling with depression tend to see the unfavorable situation much much worse than the others do.

one thing I have learned is that if the person has a difficulty with forgiving themselves for relatively small failures, it is one of the warning signs. Try helping them realize that it is not that bad, with any method you know.
Jaejoong just happens to think that his music may help them to feel better. I sincerely hope it does.

tbh, i couldn't read most of it and i didn't want to watch the video because these types of situations are terribly sad. it scares me when i hear about anyone committing suicide, especially someone like park yongha, who, according to jaejoong, was full of smiles. it's like... anyone could have these thoughts and you'd never know if they don't want you to.

This was difficult to watch. As Park Yong Ha was the first Korean celebrity that I liked.
I knew him before I had a interest in k-dramas like now.
I never had an interest in Winter Sonata but when I was watching a Japanese music show and my mom telling me, it's the guy from there,
I was like "whatever." but seeing Yong Ha talking and singing,
I saw tons of warmth and kindness, which made me immediately like him.

And even though I lost track of his career over the years, whenever I saw him,
I would be all happy and excited. So when I first heard the news,
I couldn't even cry. My heart literally fell. I was just at loss...
someone so young, good looking, had a stable career...

But once I decided to watch his interviews again, I did notice that even though he smiled,
he would constantly have sadness in his eyes.

I'm still had he left this world but it shows that there needs to be more of an support group in S.Korea.
Considering he had many financial issues and family circumstances that if he got the proper help,
it may have helped greatly.

But in regards to Jae, this clip really shows his kindness. He's really sincere with his words, and I understand even more why he wants his music to be of help.
That's the only way he can lend out his help...and I think that's kind of him.
I think he's the type that if he were a smaller star, he would actually do more interactive events with his fans.
But now, he can't. So it's like he's loved a lot...but it's so lonely.
And so in those terms, Jae most likely does understand Yong Ha's feelings.
But I hope Jae can be someone who can help other celebs and other celebs help him out as well.

Really? Young Ha was the first Korean celebrity that you liked?

I still can't believe that he is dead now. It kinda feels weird watching his dramas now...

Yeah he was. I had no interest in kdramas or kpop, but when he appeared on Japanese music shows, I immediately took a liking to him cause he seemed so sweet. And I loved his songs.

I still can't take in the fact he passed away.
Me and someone else tried to watch his drama On Air but we couldn't finish it.
And I tried Story of a Man and it was good, but it's kind of similar to his situation, that it just depressed me even more.

Where all the experts of University of Omona?

I wonder where all the scholars and experts from University of Omona, in the previous post went to. I sincerely wanna hear their professional opinion on this take.

/on other notes....I cant watch nor read this article. It pain me to know and realize how sad and devastating he must be losing such a close friend.
From: [identity profile] earthequality.livejournal.com
Right? They had no problem calling him out for a tiny detail such as all our fans should listen to our music and feel lighter. Figure of speech. He didn't commit a huge personal offense like some recent idols, just poor wording but he was sincerely talking from his heart. smh at omona people sometimes.
From: [identity profile] ckino9095.livejournal.com
Omona people are scholars and experts, remember? LOLs

From: [identity profile] very-pinku.livejournal.com
I feel like the people who nit picked small details were actually depressed themselves, that everything shown to them, becomes negative.

It's unfortunate because I feel Jae was trying to reach out for his fans in a very gentle manner.
I'm sure he never intended to belittle or hurt anyone, cause he's been suffering a lot as well.

This video made me cry. Watching Jae struggling to continue talking and keeping his tears in when he speaks about Yong Ha is rather heartbreaking. It's good to hear that he's keeping contact with Yong Ha's family, especially his mom.

A/N: Posted because I felt that, to some degree, it may help people to understand his position in regards to suicide as noted in the article posted a few days ago. Not saying it makes his views right/wrong, but just maybe allow people to appreciate the cause of his perspective.
-THIS so much. I don't think that this interview was conducted with the aim of Jaejoong offering his "professional" advise. Yeah, perhaps his answer sounded a little too idealistic, but he was just speaking based on his own opinion. Sure positive thinking or maybe music doesn't quite help some people but was it wrong for him to say that? Some method works for some and some don't work for others. It's ok if you don't agree with his opinion. I just don't understand the need for some of the harsh comments against him.

For a country that has such high suicide rate, isn't it better for an artist to voice out about suicide issues than keeping mums about it? Isn't it better if more awareness are being generated? If the ultimate aim of the whole interview was for creating more awareness, haven't he help in realising the aim just by talking?

Yeah, he should perhaps worded certain words/phrase differently, but he's just saying what he feels and think. I know, some might say that we don't need to be a professional to know what to say. Well, for these people, Kim Jaejoong might be an idol/artist who could can sing, dance, compose, write and direct but taking all these away, he is just a normal guy doing his little part in helping to create awareness on this issue.

Thank you for sharing this vid and translation with us.
