It was recently revealed that, despite being very popular in all of Asia, Super Junior’s performance fee for variety shows remains low as a group. The fee charged per performance is approximately 209,000 won ($175 USD).

For shows with a more generous production team, Super Junior can make up to 417,000 won ($350 USD). However, this does not seem to proportionately represent Super Junior’s popularity. For singers who have not debuted for more than 5 years, they usually make approximately 167,000 won ($140 USD).

Along with this, it also revealed that Super Junior has always acted professionally during the filming of shows despite the low earnings. For example, an incident occurred during the filming of a recent episode of Dream Team when the filming had to pause for over 30 minutes due to technical difficulties. In order to entertain the audience during this period, members of Super Junior went to the crowd and began dancing and signing autographs, with Leeteuk acting as the MC.

This is the same for everyone afaik. One time appearances on shows are for promotion. I'm Sure some companies even pay shows to get their idols on them.

This is for music show appearances, but variety show appearances are probably similar.

According to reports, each time an artist makes a performance on stage for a music show, he/she gets around $200. The rate is identical for all three broadcasting stations – MBC, SBS, and KBS – and the actual fee differs based on the artists’ years of experience in the music field rather than their fame.

Ofc, best idol group ever, they're humble and know how to do their work properly, no matter how much they'll earn in the end... It's ndebelievable they can be so underrated i their own country when they're obvisouly the most famous Kpop group in the world...

I wish Korean fans would wake up lol...

"most famous kpop group in the world" i wouldn't go so far but i agree that globally many people should have heard of the korean boyband "super junior" before, and yes they are extremely underappreciated in their own country :(

It's not that low. Don't they appear on those shows all the time? I'm more interested in knowing how much money do they make from the album sales.

Exactly, ok so it's low for a one time appearance, but if you pop up on a show on a weekly basis, or do several variety shows per week, then it's going to start adding up quickly.

From: [identity profile] yukahoo.livejournal.com
Doesn't surprise me. Low popularity (from what I've understood) in Korea, a dozen members and it's not like their appearance is a rare commodity. They practically live in the TV box.

But I do remember Leeteuk and Shindong being the highest earners in SJ (ranked by one of them pop-shows, don't know the figures), so I guess it accumulates to something.

One time appearances like they did on Dream Team and Teuk Academy being regulars on SH are different. The former is seen as promotion and the latter is a job, so they should earn a pretty good paycheck.

Uh, well.

Yes, the problem is not the total pay per performance (that higher than average in fact), but they it will be divided in 8/9/10/-1/3/15/pick-a-number members.

I've heard that the real money is made in tv show appearances and photoshoots anyway.

For singers who have not debuted for more than 5 years, they usually make approximately 167,000 won ($140 USD).

which means everyone else basically earns lower than them, right? if so then i don't think that their amount of performance fees is a problem. that's just how it works imo

Date: 2011-09-23 06:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kyupudding.livejournal.com
pm. I think what some people here are missing is that with such low fees, the cost of outfits and styling won't even be recouped, so in actuality they even lose money making these appearances. So why appear? For promotion of themselves and their new music. The point isn't to earn money. That is what concerts, dramas, MCing jobs, endorsements, etc are for.

Date: 2011-09-23 06:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bishieaddict.livejournal.com
That sucks but that's part of promos...if they're not out there, their albums/merchandise/concert tickets won't sell. I think the money's in concerts.

From: [identity profile] tsuyoi-hikari.livejournal.com
Reports said that K-Pop groups can earn more in one week in Japan than they can for one whole year at Korea. That's why gazillion K-Pop artists are going to Japan right now..

Even if a group practically unknown in Korea, they can still make profit if they debut in Japan.

175US$? I can even afford them to a birthday party. Even for a date i guess.

And 350US$ is just silly!!!
Even a C grade bands (not boyband, but bands, like no brain, ftisland, etc) gain 1650US$ - 3300US$/performance in my country. That's minus the crew though..
