Due to Song Jihyo's frequent hospital admissions for an allergic reaction and fatigue, her manager expressed his sentiments for the production team behind "Gyebaek."

On the 21st of September, her manager made a post on his Twitter account, giving blow by blow information of what happens on the set. After which he revealed that, "I am angry again now that I'm at the site. They call out a sick person but no one is ready. PD's only tell us to go and get rest in the car. They call us at 8 when they could've called us at 10 and no one tells us about the changed schedule."

Song Jihyo was in and out of hospital since the 18th of September, but went against medical advise and continued filming for "Gyebaek." At some point, her health deteriorated so much that she had to rely on an oxygen mask.

An official from her management also confirmed her condition saying, "The hospital doesn't suggest respirators unless they are very necessary but the doctor said she was in danger when she first came in. He asked why we let her be like this." The official also said that she had to get back to the drama shoot, as she was on a tight schedule.

Would this spark another debate for harsh working conditions in drama productions?

Gyebaek staff smh seriously, she has been in hospital like 3 times in less than 5 days and you still want her to film?

at least the Running Man PD went to visit her in hospital and excused her from filming RM until she gets better

this situation reminds me of ariel lin's situation :(
but the harsh working conditions aren't limited to just drama productions sadly, but the conditions on idols and such too.

...I'll sue the drama production asses now if I was her!!! Seriously, would the drama PD and crew/production team would be responsible is she lets hope not but it's possible from current condition DIED?!

There should be health issues in the contract, or production team need more common sense of humanity. geez... :/

Date: 2011-09-23 06:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lydzi.livejournal.com
There's no way out. Yes she would sue and then she would probably loose because it's in the contract that she has to be there etc. And probably no mention about the possibility of being sick.
Also pretty sure she would be in some sort of bloody blacklist and it would be difficult after this to have other roles etc.

It's a lot. It takes really a lot of courage for a person to go up and sue. This is why I will never understand people saying negative things on any korean entertainers voicing their anger with their company. It's not like we don't know what's going on behind the veil now. Innocence is lost for this fandom.

Plus, look at the reactions when Han Ye Seul refused to come for the apparently same reasons and because she was having a breakdown because of it. No wonders actresses don't feel confident about voicing their problems. Even the public is not with them.

Yeah, it's in the culture/their working ethic or something. One must considerate for other workers or the other members of the team. I saw a program/scoop on Samsung or some Korean company, about their work ethic. It's kinda like a brainwash or something. The loyalty to company is rather scary for me

But for crying out loud, this is not a war where you taking a bullet for a friend or the whole company. It's just a drama shooting!!! Not state emergency or something. Where's the common sense? Where's the humanity? It doesn't really matter what country or culture, basic common sense of humanity should be the same. Couldn't they give her a proper rest or something?

I just don't get it...

i dont know much about korea's contracts other than they're strict as hell, but seriously...she's having to rely on an oxygen mask now? that mean she is VERY fatigued.

so much love for RM though. at least they are letting her rest!

Isn't RM's PD the same PD from Family Outing? I remember he was also very caring for the whole Daesung situation when he got into a car accident.

But that drama PD needs to calm his/her tits cause it just so wrong.

Kuddos to this manager to voice his anger and concern. If everyone was doing this, things could change (yeah I'm an optimistic -___-).

PD's, start to hire proper organizers because obviously this is not your bloody forte. Everyone will be a winner in this.

That's bloody awful, but... I really hope the manager got her ok before he tweeted that. From what I've understood about the Korean ent. biz, she might face a backlash behind the scenes. But then on the other hand, nothing's going to change if everyone's too afraid to speak out. Tricky...

doctors always get pissed when a patient comes in with something that could have been prevented, i guess that is how much the production team values their actors....
somebody needs to get on this NOW, at least get some lawyers in, damn, do SOMETHING!!
harsh working conditions are not new or secret
stuff like this should not be happening
who cares if she was on a tight schedule, she should not have to work in terrible conditions...
she actually had to be oxygenated....

smfh. not only is this borderline inhumane but they're reducing her to having to invest all her energy in getting better and not collapsing on set rather than delivering a good performance on screen (because she obviously can't give them her best rn).

Good luck with that. These companies have too much power and run things because of the Korean wave...they use that to get the public on their side. Korean Pride and all that. Anyone that speaks up or sues..will get labeled as losing face for Korea and damaging Hayllu, and get the usual "disloyal, traitor, greedy" tag. But really...the truth is they are damaging the pocketbooks of these powerful men

Because taking yourself out of an unhappy situation and putting yourself and health and happiness above others means you are a terrible, selfish person who should be hated. :-\

it should. and this time, immediate action should be taken to improve the working conditions.

but to be honest, it's surprising that these actors/idols are taking a lot of work. even actors in my country who have shows that are shown daily don't have to work everyday. and if they need to take in another project, it's not that difficult to take a leave.

Given the response to Han Ye-Seul's breakdown, I really hope Ji-Hyo doesn't face a backlash in the industry for this. It's awful that, while she's so fatigued and overworked she's relying on an oxygen mask, that is even a concern, but it honestly seems like actresses are treated as completely expendable/disposable resources, so. :|

I hope she's able to get some genuine rest soon, and recover without worrying about a schedule.

I'm glad the Manager is speaking out. Taking a leaf out of the company's book I say. Kudos. No artistes, actor, singer or idol, should be subject to this kind of treatment.

Knowing it's Korea, her company probably couldn't have fought for better contractual terms since the production team would just find the next person who would sign the contract without so much as a squeak.

smh.
