After compiling a list earlier this year, I noticed that it was impossible to give just 5 recommendations of decent rock music. Therefore, I put together another small list of noteworthy Korean rock artists, and noticed that the list itself continued to grow whenever I could come up with a new artist that was stuck in my library of music.
Today, however, I present you another 5 great rock bands whether it be metalcore, alternative rock, or indie music. HLIN, Mate, and Bye Bye Sea might make music that's a little bit in the same specific genre, but they all have their distinct styles, while metalcore group Ninesin will be releasing a new full album next week, and rockers Schizo managed to discover and create their own kind of rock, which I didn't manage to label, but was fittingly dubbed by some online reviewer as "Techno-Space Metal."
HLIN - Soft Rock
This band's first days date back to 2007 but it took them about two years before they finally released something as HLIN. Their official first single, "City Story," was released in 2009 but the career for indie rock band HLIN took a fast turn when they revealed their first mini album, "33060," just a bit later in the beginning of 2010. More recently, they released a track for the "God's Quiz" Season 2 OST.
Soft rock band HLIN is quickly climbing up the popularity ladder with their recent releases and when we look at their homepage we can even notice there are hints of performing in the United States later on in their career.
The song featured in this article is "Missing You," a track from their last mini album "Remanent" which they released at the end of last year.
Ninesin - Metalcore
Ninesin started out in 2004 and recorded their first EP "Deathblow" in 2007. After lots of touring, gigs, and festival appearances, they revealed a first full length album "The Death, We Will Face" in 2009, which only brought the band more popularity in the underground rock scene. More recently, Ninesin revealed a new music video, "Arena," in preparation of their second full length release "Ninesin" later this month.
Bye Bye Sea - Soft/Pop rock
Bye Bye Sea had their recording debut with the release of a mini album called "Boy’s Universe" at the end of 2009. Last year the group released their first full length album "City Complex."
Apart from the strange haircuts, Bye Bye Sea's singer is also known for having a voice that can reach multiple different kinds of rock. On their albums, the band might choose to keep themselves to the indie rock genre, but when they're playing covers, they sound great as well.
Bye Bye Sea appeared as extras in the teen drama "Playful Kiss," providing the drama of some comical, but at the same time musical relief. The band also recently appeared in an episode of Yoon Dohyun's "MUST," together with boy group Teen Top where they performed one of Seo Taiji & The Boys' songs.
Schizo
This band released their debut album in 2003, called "Dumbo Shit," and the follow up "Fight Against The World" three years later. They've also appeared on multiple compilations and have released various singles throughout the years with "Bomb! Bomb! Bomb!" being their newest one.
The band just recently released the music video and single for this latest release. Though the song starts of as a rap song it changes drastically after awhile and even manages to sample f(x)'s "Pinocchio (Danger)" randomly in-between the heavy verses and chorus.
Mate - Soft/Indie rock
Mate is an alternative indie rock group who has been around and recording since 2009. This three member band's music can be best described as a mix of pop rock and indie. They released their first album "Be Mate," in 2009, and a mini album in 2010.
At the moment the band is on a break because one member had to enlist in the army, but before he left, they revealed their own movie "Play," and the corresponding OST which consisted of their own songs in a reworked version. Whether they'll be returning in the future isn't sure, but they felt they couldn't make new music with one member less than normal.
