Last month, Cube Entertainment CEO Hong Seung Sung released his own book titled, “There Will Be No Spotlight If You Stop Now“, and it’s now made him one of the best selling authors of the month!

The book was written using his 20 years of experience in the Korean music industry and aims to inspire and give hope to others pursuing the same path. Pre-orders began on August 10th, and in just two days, the book managed to skyrocket to #1 most searched book on Kyobo Books, as well as the daily sales.

Immediately after the book went on sale, the first batch was completely sold out, ranking in at #2 on Kyobo’s weekly sales as of August 29th.

The book is especially popular thanks to the widespread popularity of audition programs, where Hong’s advice will come of special use. Even for those not intending to pursue a path in the industry, exclaimed that his messages of hope helped to greatly inspire their day-to-day lifestyles.

i feel like i'm the only one who doesn't think he's an 'omgdsjfhduhyuyfduyvnt so amazing and perfect' person. don't get me wrong, i don't think he's a bad guy or anything, but i fail to see why he's so special.

Because it took him not even 3 years to raise all of his artists to the top.

except that he wasn't a nobody starting from nowhere, he was a co-owner of jyp so he had the structure, the money, the connections and the trainees when he started his business, so nothing outstanding there.

I'm actually more interested in your explanation about why this makes you so mad.

it doesn't make me mad, i actually admire the fact that he is a incredible smart man to promote this company that way, marketing it as a 'underdog' company when in reality it isn't, it sells more, make people more relatable, but i do admit that it annoys me the fact that people seem to believe it so blindly instead of admiring him the reality of things, that it’s not that original, far from it (actually they are just like any company), instead of the 'fairytale' story that was made to sell.

I think it was CL? I don't remember for sure but it might have been around the time news about him becoming a daddy came out.

Cube artists call him Hong appa since he's a father figure to them all. Papa Hong is fanmade.

I think some of his artists call him that. I've seen G.NA's tweets translated as such.

people act like the fact that he gave a second change to people who were supposed to debut under other groups/ex trainees from another companies/failed artists/people who left their original groups something that only he does and out of the goodness of his own heart.

like please, every company out there take in people like that, so many companies out there have idols that were supposed to be members of group x or debuted before and failed and shit like that, that is nothing special. the only difference was that he was smart enough to promote (as in to make them 'different' and make him look good) and get money out of it.

plus idc about the papa thing, but i prefer my jype people calling jyp hyung/oppa/ajussi because it seems a lot more close and personal, as someone who is only a bit older and more experienced than you, not someone who is so above you in family hierarchy that you must listen.

I understand what your saying and even agree to an extent but idk you're making it seem more serious than it is (or maybe I don't visit the article you do). It seems like a harmless name and most ppl's admiration for him seems like it's fairly harmless either. He's a successful business man maintaining a seemingly good relationship with his employees in an industry where not a lot of people seem to do and that's admirable.

i never said that he was someone out to do some harm, i'm just pointing out that unlike most people seem to believe that he does is not that unique, my whole point is that he not really that different of jyp and yg for example, who have a really good relationship with their employees too. he seems like a great man and a great and smart business man, but as i stated before nothing out of the ordinary like many people seem to make him to be (and I’m not necessarily seeing that it’s people here on omona), but many people seem to see him as a saint instead of a good man who is simply doing his job right.
