Super Junior’s Yesung makes a tearful confession about his father on ‘Strong Heart’

Super Junior’s Yesung made a
tearful confession about his father on the most recent broadcast of SBS’s
‘Strong Heart‘. He stated, “To be honest, I didn’t
like my father when I was a child. He was always strict, and we rarely
talked. Our relationship was so distant that I sometimes wondered if I
had any attachment towards my father.”

Yesung went on, “Our relationship is really similar to the
relationship Choi Minsoo’s character had with his
father in the drama, ‘Sandglass‘.
That’s how scary my father was, and because both my parents worked, our
time together was scarce. When I came to Seoul to become a singer, they
were against it, and they didn’t even like the fact that I listened to
music.”

The singer felt very choked up as he expressed his emotions, and he
stopped to gain composure. He went on to say, “Three years ago, I
suddenly had 50 missed calls. My father was badly hurt… and he needed a
blood transfusion. I left during a recording, and I thought about a lot
of things as I went over to my father. Three of his fingers had gotten
caught in a machine, and it began to suck my father in. It happened
during a night shift so no one could hear him, and he said he was unable
to scream. That’s when I kept thinking how frustrating it must’ve
been.”

“After that incident, I decided that I should go try to connect
with my father first. I thought that our family should have time
together. Because of this, I moved my family to Seoul, and I set up a
coffee shop for my father.”

When the hosts asked him how his father was currently, Yesung
answered, “He doesn’t have much balance. I think it’s because he was
badly hurt. He can’t close his fingers or use his left hand.” Yesung
also expressed how happy he was with their relationship now, stating, 
“Now, my father is like an older brother to me. I never knew how
innocent and cute my father was. I’m really happy now.”

My father was a violent person and I have no relationship with him now. When I began reading the article I was hoping that Yesung didn't completely lose his relationship with his Dad and I'm happy that his father ended up being like "an older brother" to him.

His story is so sad but meaningful ;___; He's been through so much over the years, and so has SUJU. You really can't help but respect them.

Though I wish he could get more love cuz I'm pretty sure he deserves it *O* I'm glad he and his father are close now ^o^

omg i never would have thought that about his dad ;__; that must have been horrible experience for him... i've been realising in the past year also, how important it is to have good relations with parents. so i have gotten much closer to mine ever since that realisation. it's great that yesung has also improved his relation with his dad. ^^ i've been to their cafe actually.. really cute place. but i didn't see anything off about his dad.. should pay more attention next time.

Wow, I knew some of this but not the whole story. Made me cry. Sometimes people don't realize the importance of someone until something drastic happens. I kind of have a similar situation with my mother. She was in the hospital for several months and had many surgeries. We got along ok before, you know typical mother-daughter fights, but now I really value her and shes like my best friend. Its scary when you think you're going to lose someone. Yesung <3, I wish I could give him a hug!

That kind of event must have been really scary. :( I'm so glad that they have a closer relationship now, though really unfortunate that only after the incident they realized how important it is. I'm sure that Yesung's father is now really proud of him. <3
