August 1st, the record was shown that Kara had sold about 320 thousand album copies. This can be further evidence to the fact that they can be a danger to BoA's 11 year music career in Japan.

In August of 2010, KARA debuted officially in Japan and later released the songs "Mister," "Jumping," and "Jet Coaster Love." The huge popularity that came with their songs surprised many people.

In the past, BoA was seen as the music queen in Japan. BoA had been promoting for 11 years and sold about 10 million albums.

One official stated, "In Japanese music sales, KARA has been gaining popularity that drives through the roof and it can be seen that KARA is a huge pop icon for the younger generation."

The fact that Kara had huge sales for their single "Go Go Summer" is another thing that draws interest from people. The single ranked number 1 on the Japanese music site Rekochoku. The rankings shown in this site and others also gave further evidence that the girl group has the potential to overtake BoA.

Asides from KARA, other groups like SNSD and TVXQ are doing just as well in Japan.

What? How is 320 000 copies sold evidence of a threat to 10 million albums sold?

I don't follow her, but I always thought she was quite popular in japan and had one of the best selling albums for a korean artist in japan.

None of the current Hallyu group can actually threaten BoA's or TVXQ (complete TVXQ)'s success in Japan. BoA and TVXQ literally sweat blood and tears during their rookie days in Japan... They're the ones who show Japan that Korean artistes are of high quality, and allowed the current idol groups riding on the Hallyu wave to have a really easy way into Japan.

+1

they're the ones who dived deep into japan and actually took the time to learn japanese and started FROM THE BOTTOM. as much as i'm loving the success some kpop groups are having, some of them are really just half assing it and are only successful because of hallyu.

One of the sources are from a korean website so this doesn't really show the Japanese view so this isn't newsworthy whatsoever.

Seriously you think a 100,000 sale can threaten 10 million...thats like saying a 5 year old can beat up a 10 year old *faceplam*

lies.

boa hasnt been selling well as of late but she has YEARS of experience and a much stronger fanbase. i love kara and they're doing REALLY well but they got a ways to go before they can even touch boa right now.

lol, they pulled this same shit when boa came and had success and started comparing her to namie. and that was no threat whatsoever.

lol what is this even

The condition of the current and then music market alone is different. Kara and SNSD are obviously doing well but I don't think any of them can ever be a threaten to Boa's stellar career. Not even the complete Tohoshinki could match to her success in Japan.

They are talking about RIAJ so these are digital sales. Koreapoop did a terrible translation. \
320만 = 3.2 million which KARA digital thus far in their year in Japan (3 songs).
365만 = 3.65 million which BOA with 7 songs in her 11 years.

AND ITS AN OLD ARTICLE!!! someone is making shit up.

But don't mind me, keep letting your butt-hurt out.

whatever poor translations there might be aside, this is like comparing apples and oranges tbh. boa came from a time when (at the height of her career) physical albums still sold much more than digital songs and albums, which is obviously not the case anymore.

boa is a legend and accomplished amazing things in japan for a korean artist. kara's doing insanely well now. there's no need to compare in ways like this.

I love KARA, and I'm super-glad they are doing well over in Japan. But you can't compare their success to BoA's. BoA had to break into the industry without the hallyu--hell, SES tried to go to Japan and didn't do so well there.

Plus, if it's digital sales they're compairing, then yes, 11 years IS a huge difference, since 11 years ago more people were buying CDs than digital copies.

I also feel like it's weird compairing a group to a solo artist. They're different feels, so they're going to attract a different audience.

I know BoA hasn't been selling all that well in Japan recently, but no one can touch her legacy.
