Korea’s foremost music icon Seo Tae-ji has started an environmental campaign to save polar bears. This is an extension of his eighth album, which warned of the impending environmental disasters.
Together with the director of the Teddy Bear Museum in Jeju Island, Seo has launched the Save the Polar Bears campaign. Under the motto, “A Temperature Difference That Changes the World,” the campaign will sell polar bear dolls and merchandises on and offline and all the profits will be donated to the Polar Bear International. The merchandises will be sold on www.etpshop.com and the eight venues of Seo’s nationwide concert tour. Seo also plans to establish an environmental fund with the proceeds from the Seo Tae-ji credit card marketed in May.
Seo has chosen polar bears as his first environmental project, because these majestic animals symbolize the destruction of earth’s environment and the devastating effects it has on our future.

Date: 2009-06-14 12:10 pm (UTC)What Seo Tae Ji has done is to spearhead a campaign that means nearly nothing. It's to let people feel good about themselves by throwing money at an organisation and not really having to change, to think about what they have doen and what they still have to do. It's irresponsible. This campaign changes nothing. On top of it all, it doesn't even change people's mindsets. Once again, it's about buying stuff. Why can't he just use his interviews and time with the media to explain the threat of global warming and express support for various organisations, and getting people to truly make donations--without the promise of teddy bears at the end of it?
